Getting ready to have one as well before I fire up the kettle for Meat Church's chicken thighs for sandwiches. G&T's are refreshing on days like this.

Tomorrow is my 71st birthday. To celebrate, I had what you see below tonight with a tri tip steak, about 7 oz.

I need to give you the back story. The company I worked for and the organization I was part of had a conference in San Diego at the Marriott on the marina. A really nice property. I stayed there with my family for vacation too. One evening they rented out the San Diego Zoo. Loaded us on busses. It was a fun experience as it was just us. They provided food. They also had stations throughout the zoo where you could get a beer or wine. I leaned to the wine. As we were wrapping up, I passed a stand and there were unopened bottles. I grabbed one as a souvenir. That was in early to mid 90s. So, let round off to 30 years. I was skeptical. Todat, I decanted for 3 hours. The aroma was fine. I tasted just before sit down to eat. Bingo! A delicious taste with strong tannins which I like. It is from Roundhill VineYards in St. Helena CA.

Summer in the Pacific Northwest got warm ….. so time for a Havana style Rum Daiquiri. Not a true Hemingway cause no grapefruit juice.

It’s 4:2:1.5 Rum to lime juice to simple syrup …. Shake over ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass (or Coupe if you have one).

Well, if it's any consolation, while you are sweltering in the mid-80's, I'll be chillin' in the low-100's.

ComfortablyNumb Who said anything about mid 80s?!? In Bellingham we’re sweltering with highs in the mid 70s with the occasional high of around 80.

Red Man That's what the forecast is for towards the end of the week in the link I posted above. Today and tonight are the coolest period for the week.

The Famous Grouse Smoky Black. It’s okay. They were out of Monkey Shoulder

Gin Fizz, hand crafted by my live-in mixologist. The light pink color comes from the use of hibiscus simple syrup, home-made, of course.

BKYDBBQ that’s exactly what I’m looking for! I’ve got way too many cookbooks either gifted or bought thinking they were more story than recipes. I’m gonna check it out

Smilner This would be a good option. My next history read will be either Black Smoke by Adrian Miller or From Barbycu to Barbecue by Joseph R. Haynes.

BKYDBBQ I just picked up Black Smoke and Mr. Miller autographed it too. Haven’t cracked it open yet.

A Boston and New England staple.

Remastered? I don’t drink beer any longer, but I always loved SA. What have they done to ‘remaster’ this great beer? Or is that…..marketing?

Norwegian Pale Ale.. quite fruity, low on bitterness and sweetness.. Cloudy..
