Now for something a bit different. Bought myself a bottle of Tom’s Foolery Applejack. Loved their Bourbon I bought a month or so ago so I bought something else they make.

After a bit of research, I learned it made from 100% Apple Cider with nothing additionally added to it. It’s double pot distilled and aged in oak barrels. It has apple / floral notes on smell and it’s not too sweet at all on taste. Has hints of Apple, cinnamon, caramel and vanilla on first taste and has a bit of heat to it for only being 90 proof. My bottle was distilled February ‘19 and bottled March ‘24.

I’m not sure how much char was on the oak barrel but it couldn’t have been too much. Has a bourbon / scotch feel to it. It doesn’t have any of the oaky bitterness some bourbons have and it doesn’t have the heavy peaty taste some scotch has. It’s got both a subtle hint of oak and peat. I have really enjoyed this tonight.

Tom’s Foolery also makes a Rye. I’m pretty sure that’s what my next bottle will be that I buy.

that looks like a nice pour right there! Did you find this in a cordial area of a shop or with the bourbon? You could make some cool cocktails with that!

barelfly it was in the Brandy section. Not sure how widely distributed it is. Tom’s Foolery is just a small husband and wife distillery here in NE Ohio. I actually bought this today when we were up by Cleveland.

    Happy Fryeday!

After my journey through Ohio bourbons and ryes, my next trip will be exploring Pennsylvania bourbons and ryes. Looks like you enjoy that since it’s got quite a bit missing.

Stopped at the liquor store after work to get another bottle of Ohio bourbon to continue my journey through the Ohio distilleries. Noticed this sitting behind the counter.

Decided my Ohio Bourbon journey had to wait a couple weeks. I purchased it for $58.99 and have enjoyed a couple of pours from it this evening. I’m not a big fan of bourbon over 100 proof but this is very nice over ice. Tried a bit neat but then ultimately decided over ice is how I was going to enjoy it more.

My Niece recently married a bourbon sufficianado. Her hubby, made available, a btl of 107 for each of the groomsmen and the open bar, if you knew their puppas name would serve a dbl shot of 107, if asked for. I think they went thru two cases. Very Nice!

        NOPE!!!!

It might be good in BBQ sauce.

Bought a smoked bourbon a couple of months ago and really liked it. That one, the corn was smoked before it was milled to make the mash.

This one has toasted and smoked hickory staves put into the bourbon while it is in a vacuum still. Not sure what they were going for but it’s not for me.

Started my Bourbon journey a year ago and it’s been a fun trip. Before last July the only reason I ever bought whiskey / bourbon is when I needed it for cooking.

It all started when I decided to make my own vanilla extract and wanted to make some with bourbon also. I went to the liquor store to buy a bottle to make my vanilla and saw Buffalo Trace and thought GO BILLS! so that’s what I bought. Little did I know this was a sought after delicious bourbon and would be a bit difficult to find going forward. While making the vanilla I poured myself a glass over ice and quite enjoyed it.

A week or two later after some interweb research I decided to buy a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon to start my journey. One year and 26 additional bottles later I’ve acquired a bit of a collection. My most recent bottle is the Frey Ranch four grain. Looking forward to enjoying that this evening.

I’ve only bought one undrinkable bottle (Seven Brothers) and there are a few others I’d never buy again but still serve a purpose (mixed drinks, cooking with).

It’s been fun and interesting tasting the differences the grains make, the length it’s aged, where it’s aged and what it’s aged in.

Thanks for everyone’s help here in steering me down my bourbon path. I raise a glass to you all.

I still have a few bottles of Ohio Bourbon to add to my collection. I’m assuming you’ve had this. Is this worth buying?

I have not, but I will give it a shot.

I don’t hunt for Blanton’s, but I usually have the chance to buy a bottle a few times a year. Having this today, on a hot summer day, it’s a nice sipper for summer. This past week, I had to add a cube to my sippers at the lake just to get them to be refreshing. This one works for that!

One of my favs to be sure.

I generally don't drink during the week.
I'm making an exception for Dad's birthday.
He would have turned 85 today and he
          loved a good Islay whiskey.
          Cheers Pop!

Looks good. I wish we had real liquor stores here in Ohio. I do not believe a state run liquor distributor can have their own single barrel pick. And all liquor stores in Ohio are state run. Ohio will purchase single barrels and distribute these single barrel bottles through all of the state run stores so each store only gets a few. I’ve picked up some store pick single barrel bottles when we’ve visited Western NY and have really liked what I’ve bought v

Certainly not my collection (don’t drink these). I had to go to a high end liquor store to search for a Mexican Orange liqueur. I figured y’all would enjoy the eye candy!

OMG imma send you back for some purchases!!! Dang on that selection!!!!!!! What was the Pappy running? The bottles on bottomshelf, left cabinet? If the eagle rare was 2.5K…those had to be even more!

And the Weller CYPB? Left side, middle shelf - white label. That’s my unicorn bottle!

barelfly I figured you would comment on this. You were the first person I thought of. I don’t recall the Pappy, but I did point it out to BF. He just kinda looked at the cabinet and drooled. There was another customer also admiring the collection and lamenting he couldn’t get about 70% of the offerings. I believe he said he was fromNC.

Perfect drink for a muggy summer evening...

Alan Brice I like it okay. I have a bottle of the barrel proof, which is good. I wanted to love these, but I don't. That said if you pour a splash of the standard into a glass of the barrel proof, the result is outstanding. It's definitely a case where the sum is greater than it's parts. The BP that I have is the C922 release, which is the only reason I bought it, because I was told that it's one of the best releases. I probably won't replace either when they're gone.
