Wife had a work conference in Louisville Kentucky last week. My only role was Uber driver and dinner date. That left me unsupervised during the day. So being in the bourbon capital.... Toured the Peerless and Angel Envy distilleries and visited several outlets along Main Street. Tasted some (a lot) and brought home requisite souveniers. Learned a lot and brought home some fine examples.

In the bourbon capital without adult supervision, what a wonderful weekend.

This week’s Whisky Wednesday took us to England and Scotland for Yorkshire and Scotch Whisky. Unfortunately all of the expressions that we tasted will not be available until late fall. When available I will pick up the Yorkshire cask strength.

barelfly, lately I’ve had a few finished whiskies that have been really good. This one is very good and you’re right, it didn’t break the bank.

Sweaty Paul Maple, Apple and Bourbon pair so well together. It’s only about a teaspoon of fresh squeezed apple juice. Just enough to give it a subtle apple taste.

        Round 4

        Chocolate Covered Cherry Old Fashioned

1/2 ounce brown sugar simple syrup
        5 dashes Cocoa Angostura Bitters
        1 teaspoon cherry liquid
2 ounces Southern Tier Smoked Bourbon
        Cherry garnish

Sweaty Paul 8 total ounces of bourbon in 2 1/2 hours is not that impressive. You should see me on game day as part of the Bills Mafia! 😝

barelfly They all are good in their own way. I started out with the classic because that’s the simplest of the 4. It’s more about the bourbon than the others. The next level adds the spice of rye and a hint of cherry to the mix. Round three adds even more flavor with the maple and apple. The last was the one that hit you in the mouth with the most flavors. All three elements have strong flavors. Smoked Bourbon, cherry liquid and chocolate bitters are all bold flavors.

Whiskeyman53 It's very, very good, especially if you like high rye bourbon. I grabbed a few off the clearance shelf last year for $37.00, in my neck of the woods, (Baltimore Metro area, and it's almost impossible to find anymore outside of Tennessee. I believe that it's been rebranded under the Nelson Brothers label.

So I tasted this today….. nothing great, I just wanted to share the packaging. It’s a can!

A little bit of Texas whiskey. You can really taste the Texas heat in this pour.

Now I want a slushy! Margarita flavored, though.

A bit of Frey Ranch Single Barrel Barrel Strength I got this past winter. Still delicious.
