Sober October, I bid you adieu.
This one is a banger. I bought a bottle of Oban and had that on Halloween when I always call my month of sobriety and it just wasn't doing it for me. I wished I stuck with my frequent favorite Talisker Storm. So after physical therapy I stopped at the liquor store because I needed maraschino liqueur anyway. Fortunately, I asked the guy there if he knew his Scotch. He didn't. But he called to the back and a woman came out who did. She recommended this and said it was a brand new release that she thought was fantastic, and I agree. Cheers!

Green Mountain Grill - Jim Bowie
(I've never regretted having too much grate space).
Weber Genesis Gas grill
Weber Kettle grills x 2
Found this deliciousness while in Ireland a year ago as we were leaving Dublin. We were cruising through the Duty Free shop and thought "why not?" It was absolutely delicious and was about $45 when I found it. Would highly recommend. Has a sweet caramel flavor with a very smooth finish and some vanilla notes to finish. I have taken to drinking my Irish Whiskey neat with a few drops of water from I/O water tap (I really think that water really helps open the flavors on the my bourbons and whiskeys). Sad that it is gone and haven't been able to find it here in the USA. Guess that means I need to try to get back to Ireland again!!

Pheasant hunting in South Dakota this year we had a smorgasbord of bourbon, tequila, and Irish Whiskey. Pretty fun to have a sampler. General thoughts that while the Red Spot is delicious the Blue Spot stole the show. The Colonel Taylor Single Barrel was delicious (as always). Would highly recommend the Bowman Bros as well.

OC Sandy. Bourbon cream is a great way to end the evening. I couple ounces on some ice is a nice sipper. Probably would be delicious on ice cream! Seriously, really enjoy it has a night cap.

I did a sbs tasting with the 12, 15 & 18 year last night. 15 won the night.....with the 18 & 12 not too far behind. I didn't bother with the 9 year because I figured that my palate would be shot by the time I got to the 18.
With the exception of the Maple flavored stuff, I like all KC bourbon & rye....

The Maple is a bit heavy handed.

The maple is great for Old Fashioneds, mixing with apple cider and using in apple crisp.

IIRC ssandy_561 you posted the apple crisp and that is why I bought it in the first place. Tx!

Today was Single Barrel Saturday here in Ohio. I heard Weller was going to be available also. I left my house this morning at 8:00 am and went to the Giant Eagle grocery store (That’s where the liquor store is in my town). I got there at 8:18 am and was 22nd in line. By the time the doors opened there were probably 40 people in line. The doors opened at 9:00. I picked up 2 bottles today.
The first bottle I got was below.
They had 30 bottles of Weller Full Proof and the first 30 people in line chose it. At $58.99 the price couldn’t be beat. I now have Weller Special Reserve, Weller Antique and Weller Full Proof. I’ll probably have some friends over soon for a Weller tasting evening.
I got back in line and picked up what I really came for.
This is my 4th different bottle from Frey Ranch and all 4 have been delicious. I first bought their regular Bourbon (Delicious), I next bought a bottle of their Bottled-in-Bond Rye and it was beyond Delicious. I next bought their Farm Strength Uncut Bourbon and can you guess, Delicious.
The Farm Strength Uncut was big time caramel up front with baking spices on the finish.
The Single Barrel I got today is more Fruity up front and has a hint of mint.
The Farm Strength is 121 proof where today’s bottle is 119.62 proof. Both are a bit high of a proof for me. I used to like 80 to 90 proof bourbons, now 100 proof bourbons seem to be my favorite. Maybe in a few more years I’ll start appreciating the 120 proofs a bit more. But for now, a piece of ice or two is my go to for high proof bourbons.

Good picks!!!! Frey Ranch does some good stuff! How else are you picking up the FR bottles? In state or through their website? They do some great stuff!
And nice score on the FP! I’ve yet to open up my collection. Waiting until my Dad is with me to do that tasting.
Hope you enjoy these!

barelfly I’ve gotten all of my Frey Ranch at liquor stores here in Ohio. The first three are readily available. Frey Ranch released 4 distinct single barrels in Ohio today. The liquor store I went to today only had barrel 2063. I might check out the other liquor stores in neighboring cities tomorrow to see if they have bottles from different barrels.

Well...the game was disappointing...but we always win the tailgate!
The Booker's pictured isn't the one that I bought last week...it was a gift for the cooks...but we shared the rest, mainly because it's excellent, clocks in at ~ 130 or so proof and we didn't want to waste on people who don't drink bourbon and we didn't want people falling on their faces.
The Johnny Drum was a pleasant surprise. The first releases, (not to be confused with the very, very early bottles from back in the day), were disappointing. Now that Willett is distilling and bottling their own, this version is very good. Surprisingly good and not stupid expensive.

Bookers was my fav occasional $$$ bourbon decades ago. It priced me out of the mkt.

Alan Brice Damn right! It was one of the first barrel-proofers that I ever drank & it used to be $60.00 - $65.00 so I quit buying when Beam got greedy. That said, I did snag a bottle up in PA last week for $99.00 which still chafes my cheap-ass, but I don't mind because I don't drink as much hi-octane whiskey any more & it's very, very good. The one pictured is a gift

I liked it. Nothing I would just run out to buy, but it was good. A little bit sweet on the palate.

Brisket Syndicate yeah....that's pretty much I feel. I can buy 4-5 bottles of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel, Rare Breed or 10 bottles of WT101 for around same price as one bottle of Elmer T. Full disclosure: I'm a Turkey Head
