On my way to Cleveland 3 weeks ago I stopped in Akron to pick up a bottle of Bourbon. I love that Ohio has a website that lets you know what every liquor store in the state has in stock. It doesn’t say how many bottles they have but if it’s in stock or not. I’ve bought a bottle of Bourbon, Rye and Applejack from this distillery and have loved them all. This time I was hunting for something a bit different.
This is Tom’s Foolery Bourbon that is finished in a bourbon barrel that maple syrup was aged in. I went to Tom’s Foolery’s website to find more information about it and this is what I learned.
Tom’s Foolery will lend bourbon barrels to maple syrup producers to age maple syrup in. (If you’ve never bought pure maple syrup that has been aged in bourbon barrels , please do so, it’s delicious). After the maple syrup companies are done with the barrels they are returned to Tom’s Foolery were they will take Bourbon that is ready (My bottle was aged 6 years) and finish it in the bourbon barrels that the maple syrup was aged in. It doesn’t say how long it’s finished in the maple syrup barrels but that it’s just finished.
I’m really enjoying this bourbon this evening. There is just the smallest hint of maple. It’s quite subtle. I’m enjoying it on ice and it’s nice just sipping. I’m still getting all of the nuances of the bourbon, vanilla, oak and caramel with just smallest hint of maple. It’s nothing like The Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon I’ve given my review of. That’s Maple forward where this is maple in the background.
I’m officially a fan boy of Tom’s Foolery distillery here in north East Ohio. They are now 4 for 4 on the whiskeys I’ve bought from them and I’ll be purchasing whatever I can find from them in the future.

I took a Tour at the Jameson Distillery in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland last week and finished with their Premium Tasting. Well worth it and I left with a few bottles of Redbreast 18 that was just released and not yet available through distribution. One bottle went as a gift to a Cousin living in Cork I met for the first time, one a traveling partner and I enjoyed on the trip and one to bring home. The box was slightly dented in checked luggage but the whiskey is fine. Sublime!
