Since I’ve started drinking Bourbon a few years ago I’ve tried WT 101 but all it reminds me of is drunken high school and drunken college parties. I’ve always been a bit confused about WT 101. I’m always watching and reading about how it’s such a great bourbon for the money but I can’t get by my feelings about it. Has WT 101 changed since the 90’s? I remember always getting it because it was cheap and it got you messed up.
ssandy_561 WT101 has always been great whiskey. Kid drank it because it was one of the few higher proof bourbons available, back in the day & it's cheap. People often confuse price with quality, which is how we Turkey heads like it! There's a reason why legacy brands like Jim Beam, WT101, Old Grandad BiB have been around so long. People overlook them, because that's what their Dad's and Grandparents drank. Try any of them in a blind tasting & be pleasantly surprised..
I'm pretty bad at this "not buying whiskey" stuff, but my excuse is that we're on vacation and my favorite LS down here does excellent picks, (they let try before you buy), and I couldn't pass up a 1l bottle of BT for $29.99. It's hard to come by in the Baltimore metro area, so I snagged one.
Can never go wrong with Buffalo Trace. I’m also wanting to buy something from Russell’s. I’m just still on my Ohio Bourbon Journey. I have a few more to buy, then I think Russell’s will be my next one.
Buffalo Trace is the bourbon that I believe everyone will drink. Most people have heard of it and I do not know anyone who won’t drink it. It might not be the most complex bourbon but there is nothing to hate about it. I’ll always buy a bottle when it’s available. This is probably the bourbon I’ve bought the most bottles of.
My fifth trip to Ohio bourbon takes me to Wooster Ohio. Wooster is 45 minutes NW of where I live. I picked up a bottle of Minglewood bourbon today. $42.95 was MSRP.
Not sure of the percentages but it’s Ohio grown corn, wheat and rye and it’s says it’s aged a minimum of 4 years. Very light in color and it’s not too complex. The aroma is honey sweet and big vanilla and caramel flavors on consumption. This is a bourbon that could be sipped on all day and I believe no one would find it offensive.

A replica of the whisky found in Antarctica from Ernest Shackleton's 1907 Nimrod expedition. After almost a century buried in ice under the explorer's hut, the whisky was painstakingly recreated by Whyte & Mackay's master blender, Richard Paterson.
