Anyone had a Dewars old fashioned? A friend of mine drinks it all the time. I tried one. Not bad. Now I'm thinking of making a Freezer Old Fashioned batch with Dewars, for when she stops by for a cup of sugar or a spice she doesn't have, etc. and a drink.
I'll probably use this recipe but would swipe the inside of the glass with a slice of orange and add a few Luxardo cherries on a stick.
Anybody got a better Old Fashioned recipe that would work for a freezer door style of cocktail making?
I'm old school. Squeeze the oil from an orange peel in an OF glass, drop the peel in a cocktail mixing glass, add one bar spoon of simple syrup, 3 dashes Agnastora bitters, stir, add a lot of ice, 2 oz of rye, (*not bourbon or Dewars 😉), stir, strain into the OF glass over a large cube. Add a Luxardo cherry, with ~ bar spoon full of the cherry syrup, stir & garnish with an orange peel twist.
*of course, you like what you like😁 Mrs Skinfan likes 'em sweet so I use 1/4oz SS in hers.

Thanks, Skinsfan1311 , for your OF recipe. I'm going to enjoy making one from it. Must go buy an orange.
It would be fun to make an OF flight using your, my Dewars friend's, and barelfly 's recipes and share with a couple of my friends, discovering which version each of us chooses as the best.

Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

I'm under the weather with a virus that makes me have to miss work tonight. So it's a taste-off between two absolutely fantastic rye whiskies, both barrel strength. Gonna burn this bug outta me.

Wife and I are at the lake house getting ready for a big sweat equity project. But…first we have a nice dinner and a cocktail and a wonderful pour of this great bottle!
The old fashioned with Rittenhouse!
and this amazing bottle of Wolcott - a high proof bottle, a Total Wine special, but this is such a great bottle! I highly recommend this bottle!
barelfly Which would you suggest between the Wolcott Rickhouse Reserve or Makers Mark Golden Hour Barrel Select? Both are high proof. I'm going to TW tomorrow and I want try something new. Thanks for you thoughts. Purc
Purc - I haven’t tried that specific MM bottle. The only MM I have in the rotation currently is the BEP bottle, which is really good. It’s a Barrel Entry Proof bottle at 110. Price is higher than most of their other bottles, around $80.
with Wolcott - you should be able to sample it at the store. Even if it’s not on their bar, ask and they should haven an open bottle for you to try. The Bottled In Bond is good but this Rickhouse Reserve is top notch for $42.

I’m trying to slow down my enthusiasm for trying the bonded 100 proof. I may try both that and the Rye today, today may be one of the last weekends outside watching football, have a pour and a cigar. It may hit 60 today.
barelfly doing some reading on Sinatra today, I’m glad I have not purchased it yet, and unless I go down some sort collectors route, I can’t see myself buying one either.
Richard Chrz - glad you were able to read up a bit on it. I’m not one to poo poo a bottle, as bourbon tastes vary from person to person. But your statement is the opinion that I’ve read mostly as well. Lot of money for a bottle, perhaps some day you will run across it at a restaurant so you can taste. Or, perhaps someone on the site has a bottle they can sample out for you. Another site I’m on, i’ve had a few guys send me samples of higher end bottles to make decisions on. Was helpful.
