This is a really really good rye. It's a relative newcomer to the shelves and it's not inexpensive, but it is really good! It has definite rye character of course but it also has more of a caramel overtone that I usually don't see in ryes too often, but more bourbons.

      It’s really good

The regular Basil Hayden was bought at Costco for like $34. The Basil Hayden on the right was $31 on final sale at Mariano’s (Kroger). Will try it tonight but I couldn’t pass this up.

A buddy of mine gave me a bottle of the toasted BH for my birthday. Have yet to try it, but others have said it’s good. I have tried the Red Wine Cask bottle and thought it was interesting. The red wine was very subtle.

The fried chicken at this distillery is amazing.
The whiskey is pretty good too😉

I still have not tried anything from Bardstown. I don’t see it here in NM, so must not be on any of the distributors list here.

barelfly BBC does some interesting things with whiskey blends. Whoever blends these does a great job. This one is a blend of their own distillate & some older Kentucky sourced distillate. I don't seek it out, but snag a bottle once in a while. I think I paid ~ $65.00. I'll post a pic of the blend, in case you're interested in that kind of thing. We enjoyed visiting the distillery if nothing else, for the restaurant which is amazing.

barelfly Here's a shot of the BBC Fusion Series #7 blend. If you ever make the pilgrimage to KY, I can highly recommend a visit to BBC. It's really cool facility. You can Google it for a better info than I can provide on a message board.

Preparing for the Patriots game today. With this season going the way it is this year it seems like Sunday is reserved for barrel strength only.

I picked up an EC 18 yesterday. I have now four unopened EC bottles. I’ve been trying to get the C923 bottle but have yet to see it here in New Mexico.

How do you like this batch?

barelfly, I unfortunately have 2 or 3 pours of my EC18 left. It is a great bottle . The EC A123 is fantastic, it's been opened for about 9 months now and has developed more vanilla while taming the proof a little. The other 23's have positive reviews, there really isn't a bad barrel proof from Elijah Craig.

I had a few of these over the weekend out with the wife. One was decent, one was just ok - different flavor profile with the use of red corn.

But, I have yet to find an Old Fashioned as good as what I make

Amen! I make 'em just how I like 'em. It's like steak or ribs...why bother ordering them at a restaurant when I can make them better at home? That's why we order cocktails out that I don't, or can't, make at home. I've never understood how Sazerac was/is ever allocated. I'm not much of a fan.

Skinsfan1311 - that’s right! I don’t order steak for that same reason! I should go with this for OFs!

50/50 blend of these. I'm not a big fan of the standard Larceny, but I did pick up the BP bottle because the C922 release is supposed to be really good. It drinks a little hot, but I read on another board that folks are mixing these and really happy with the results. We'll see. 😉

I do enjoy the toasted barrel.

This was a good one. Only a few more bottles with single pours to go to make room in the home bar.

Have you tried the John J. Bowman?. If you like the Bowman Brothers, I think that you'll love the John J. It's their single barrel and it's a staple on our bar.

Skinsfan1311, I have not. I'll pick up the John J. after the holidays when I do a restock trip to the package store.

After an OF with my son, I killed this MM BEP bottle. It’s a great bottle - glad I have a backup!

Hahah! Skinsfan1311 that Rye bottle…have another one at the lake house. It’s so good! I’ll make sure I put a Blue and Silver Star on it next photo so it really taunts you

Those KC wax seals are notorious for shattering. This one did not.

How is this Scotch Whiskey - I know nothing about scotch. I have a bottle of Balvenie in the cabinet that I’ve had for years, just can’t get passed the dang peat! If I remember, Islay variety is a bit peatier than others?

barelfly If you can't get past the peat, avoid this and pretty much all Islay whiskey.
