That on my list to try. I’ll probably get to it sometime this winter. Still enjoying my Summer of Rye.

The summer of Rye continues with some Frey Ranch Straight Rye Whiskey. It’s distilled from 100% slow-grown winter rye. It’s non chill filtered. Bottled in Bond, 100 proof and aged 6 years.

Now I know it has no bearing on taste, but let’s talk about how beautiful this bottle is. The yellow and green work so well together. The Frey Ranch logo is metal and set into the bottle and the bottom of the bottle is 1” thick solid glass. The stopper is also metal and incorporates the Frey Ranch logo into it.

At first pour it smells like garden herbs with mint being the prominent herb smell. There is also a nice oak background. After a few more whiffs some baking spices come through.

It continues with a mint taste up front followed by spices and a bit of pine on the finish. So smooth. There is nothing harsh about it.

It seems so familiar and so different at the same time, it’s hard to explain.

In a nut shell, this Rye is top of the line.

Earlier this year I tried their 4 Grain Straight Bourbon Whiskey and loved it. It’s easily top 5 pours of all time for me in my short (1 1/2 years) whiskey adventure. I posted about this in “What are You Drinking RIGHT NOW II”. Not sure why I didn’t post about that here.

If you’ve never had anything from Frey Ranch go out a get a bottle of something from them. You won’t regret it. I haven’t.

They just released another rye bottle, uncut/barrel strength. It’s a bit steep for me though. But the regular bourbon I picked up from there was great, and the bottle is one of the nicest bottles I’ve purchased! Glad you enjoyed this one!

A new one for me. I really enjoy it

+1 on the Beam. I like the Rye and the Extra Aged. I feel they are a good balance of taste and affordability.

A little Antique 107 and a Western Kansas sunset.

Holladay Soft Red Wheat - one bottle that I really enjoy, especially on the first fire of the season!

A lot of people like this and I've always wanted to try it...but the $65.00 price tag gave me pause. A couple weeks ago, a buddy of mine shared some of the BiB version. I wanted to like it...but I don't. I will say that it was balanced, but nothing stood out. In fairness, we had pours of KC12 and ER10 before we tried it, and those are tough acts to follow. Maybe I'll revisit it down the road...

        Happy Fryeday!

Skinsfan1311 - I don’t get these out often, and I’ve found summer I don’t enjoy the rye as much as I do in the winter. But last night, wasn’t too hot so heavy hitters came out!

Had some of this at our tailgate today...and Maker's 101, Buffalo Trace and some Booker's at the post-tailgate victory celebration.
Finishing the night with a pour of Knob Creek 15 year in the glass..

          Cooters garage!!!!!!!!

Cooked up a tri tip tonight, so sipped on this while I tended to the cook. This bottle has developed as it’s been open since December. First pour I didn’t care for and was a bit disappointed I paid the money I did for it. It’s better now but I don’t know that I would buy it again for the price.

Even though it’s the first day of fall, my summer of Rye continues. Tonight I’ve been enjoying Western Reserve’s 6 year single barrel rye.

It’s a 95/5 mash bill and is distilled, aged and bottled in Lakewood Ohio (Just outside of Cleveland). It’s advertised as being 100% organic grains from right here in NE Ohio.

It has your normal rye characteristics on the nose plus I get a good kick of caraway. That’s a plus in my book.

The taste is warm and peppery with a slight taste of cherry to me.

It’s quite smooth and feels very velvety while sipping.

It was on sale for $44.99. It’s not better than the Frey Ranch rye I tried a few weeks back or the Bulleit 12 year rye I tried a month or so ago but it’s quite delicious.

I know summer is over but I’m going to continue my rye journey. There are three other bottles I want to purchase and try.

          Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye
          Russell’s Reserve 6 year Rye
          Michter’s US-1 Kentucky Straight Rye

I’ve also read and seen some great reviews of:
          Redwood Empire Emerald Rye

          Has anyone tried this?

I’ve heard good things about the Redwood brand, for the price it’s a good buy. I have only tried one of their selections, Cask Strength Lost Monarch, which is a Rye/Bourbon bottle, and I have really enjoyed it.

For the JD Single Barrel rye - do you like high proof bottles? If you do, see if you can find the Single Barrel Barrel Proof bottle. That’s a banger!!

But thanks for the review on the Western Reserve!

          Had this last night...
