I love, LOVE Ardbeg! It's my "go-too" Islay whiskey...followed closely by Lagavulin. The Traigh Bhan 19 is my favorite, but a tad pricey, so it's an occasional sipper. I'm curious to read your impressions of the Wee Beastie. It's pretty good, but my least favorite of the line-up. It's clearly a young whiskey and the peat doesn't disguise it. That said, it's still a solid pour.

A couple weeks ago we went to Western New York to go to the Bills game. We stopped at the liquor store I went to as a youth. I’ve enjoyed every barrel pick I’ve ever gotten from them and this one was no exception.
Tonight was the first night I was able to enjoy this bottle.
On the nose I got chocolate covered peanuts. The taste was full of butterscotch and the chocolate returned on the finish. The taste lingered for a while after I completed the sip. It drank a bit warm for 109 proof but that might be because it’s been around 3 weeks since I enjoyed my last pour of anything.
These are the numbers on the label.
I understand what they mean but don’t know what they exactly impart to the bourbon. I’ll have to hunt down another bottle sometime with a different set of numbers to compare.

Thank you barelfly, I now count birthdays as 1 year closer to retirement. It makes it less depressing.

MWS! I want to thank you enablers. Actually I do want to thank “yous guys” (a little PA lingo there) bc I used to always buy the same bourbons. Between this sight and the absurd cost of my once favorite bourbons, I’ve branched out and found some excellent mid range ($50ish) sippers. Got two to try tonight.

barelfly Good call on the WTRB rye. It's one of my favorites. My "go-to" rye is WT101 which is a great pour and reasonably priced. If you can find the Jack Daniels Bonded rye, that's a solid pour, just don't pay more than $35.00 for it. One of the best ryes, or whiskeys is the Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof, whiskey or rye. Doesn't matter, they're both excellent & very reasonably priced...usually under $70.00.

Great choice for either one. If I had only one to keep on hand, the Rare Breed would win.

Last evening I enjoyed A RTD Old Fashioned.
It wasn’t a typical Old Fashioned. It’s only three ingredients were Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Peychaud’s Bitters and Caramel Color. I enjoyed my first one as is from the bottle. The second one I enjoyed I added a bit of simple syrup. Both were great. The container said it was aged at the Buffalo Trace distillery. Not sure if that means the Bourbon was aged or if the mixture was aged. For only $29.99 for the 750 ml bottle I find it an incredible deal.

Getting ready to do a SBS tasting.
It's hard to tell by the images, but the 21 is a little darker.
I'm not one for fancy packaging, (my cheap-ass would rather forego the cute boxes & bags to pay less), but I gotta admit that this is pretty cool.
Here's how you free it from it's little wooden prison, in case you're curious

barelfly ran out of space in my comment. I've seen the 18 in boxes but, according to a LS owner, distributors only get so many of those, maybe a couple per case, depending on the brand, (i.e.Old Fitzgerald BiB ships 3 bottles in the green felt bags per case). I've only seen 2 bottles of the 21, at two different stores, one of which went home with me...

Well..i may have to look around here for one. And I paid what you mentioned, $189. That sounds right. The 18 for me, at first, was a bit much. But it has really turned into a great pour! So I am glad you are enjoying the 21!! Cheers!

@barefly MSRP on the 21 is $250.00, so I had no problem dropping $259.00. Another store had it for $299.00, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. If I see another 21 at $259.00, I'll pull the trigger again.
I thought the 18 was a bit much when I first tried it, but a few drops of water smoothed it right out. I rarely add water to sub-120 proof whiskey, but the 18 & 21 really improve with it..
