I’ve been catching up on watching missed episodes of Landman. What else would you sip on other than a Texas whiskey.
I don't know....they drink a lot of Pappy on that show. You need to drink a lot to get through those cringy mother/daughter scenes. Those scenes aside, it's a great show.
Huskee - I've had Pappy twice, both before it became as astronomically expensive is it is now, and I thought it was worth it then. I think I paid about $65 for a 1oz pour at Red in the Napa Valley about 11 years ago and then about $110 for the same 1oz pour in Albany, NY a few years later.
Dewesq55 WOW! I rememebr one time about maybe 12 yrs ago paying $25 for a pour of Johnny Walker Blue, I thought that was absurd. It's $50-60 now. Never again, I just cant' support that nonsense even if I do have the money. Which I don't.
I picked up some spirits at the Key West First Legal Rum Distillery, Vodka, Key Lime Rum and Duval Street Spiced Rum.
As a side note, I was in the distillery trying some samples and looked at the challenge coin collection and had to do a double take. One of the coins was from someone I went to High School with and did several USCG tours in Key West. Shows what a small world it can be.,
Whiskeyman53 the Beam SiB is fantastic! I hope it continues to fly under the radar. It's got the classic Beam funk & peanut overtones on steroids and is a staple on our bar.

Christmas Eve and New Year’s will get kicked off with my second ever bottle of this. The first bottle I didn’t regret the cost at all and I’m a tightwad on my bourbon.
I love Blanton’s. It’s very difficult to find here although there are a few package stores have store picks available of the gold. I have my eyes on a bottle soon.
I have heard good things about Jack Daniels Heritage Barrel and finally I have located a bottle. This will be my contribution to our Christmas Eve gathering to be shared with my brother in laws. Have a happy and safe Christmas Eve.

After tasting this, I went back and snagged another one. It's one of the best releases of Booker's that I've ever had, ( I've had quite a few), and for $69.99 it's a no-brainer.
I've been seeing that one in my local store. I was turned off from Booker's a few years back when (to me) it was overly harsh and not very palatable, like a rougher around the edges Knob Creek is what I rememebr thinking. I trust this one's a winner from your praise here.
Booker's seems to be a crap shoot, very inconsistent from batch to batch. The reviews that I've watched are positive for the last batch, "phantom pipes".
For several years now I have had a tradition for Christmas night. When all of the hustle and bustle of Christmas Eve and the festivities for Christmas Day comes to an end, we settle in for a quiet night to relax. This is when I sit with a dram of Old Rip Van Winkle, instrumental Christmas music in the background as my wife takes a much needed nap.
This was a bitter sweet night because I knew this would be the last time I would enjoy Pappy’s “little brother “. My yearly dram of this bourbon was coming to an end.
As I slowly enjoyed my last few sips my much better half woke up from her nap. She asked why I seemed to be taking such a long time to finish my glass and I let her know that this was the end of the bottle. At that point she left the room and returned with one final Christmas present.
Picked these up at the distillery today. A tad pricey, but only available there. They had quite a few options, so I picked out flavor profiles that appealed to me.
The limit was 2 for each type. I cracked one as a "vacation" whiskey. $44.75 for 375ml bottles, which is a HELLUVA lot cheaper than a round of drinks in downtown Nashville.
Whiskeyman53 I opened the rye finished in high toast oak barrels as our"vacation" whiskey & we put a serious hurtin' on it. It's very good. It weighs in at 101 proof & on the sweet side, but the spice offsets that in a very good way. Each bottle is blended by a different JD taster, whose names & signatures are on the label. It's a cool concept & I'm looking forward to trying the others.
