Whiskeyman53 Here are the tasting notes from the label. Also, I thought that this was cool.
They have different bottles on display in the main lobby. One of them was the "Belle of Lincoln" bottle. I have a replica bottle, (from the 70's), that was given to me years ago from his Dad's collection after of he passed. I have lived right down the road from Jack Daniel's for 30 years and have never been. I will go in 26

Celebrated the holidays with some Christmas spirits with my brother in law. And we had our annual gift exchange of a bottle of Scotch...win-win! Click image for larger version

Alan Brice This is the last of your Buffalo Trace you and Kim gave me at the Cajun Meat Up. I'm enjoying this as I cook a Tri Tip on the Kettle today. Thank you both again. Happy New Year!

Picked up a bottle of this New Years Eve. I didn’t get to enjoy it then but am enjoying it now.

This was $49.99 here in Ohio. So nice…so good. Probably one of my favorites under $50.

I know a lot of people have said this is just like Weller 107. I will agree it’s similar but for me there are some slight differences.

On the nose Weller 107 has vanilla, brown sugar, some floral and cherry for me.

On the nose the Bardstown has the same vanilla, brown sugar, some floral and then instead of cherry I get a bit of citrus.

Now for the taste they are quite similar to me. Where as the Weller is incredibly smooth for 107 proof, the Bardstown has a slight burn in a good way for 106 proof it is.

Also the Weller seems to be a bit thicker.

Now they both have a nice long delicious finish with both having cinnamon and spice, vanilla, oak and char. The cherry comes back in for the Weller where the citrus comes back in for the Bardstown.

If you like Weller 107 (which I think most of you do) I would not hesitate to try the Bardstown Origin Series Wheated. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I have a bottle of this opened now. I am kind of young to bourbon so this may not mean much. I initially thought it was a little rough. It could be 106 proof. Then it really opens up nicely. The second sip brought on the "oh wow!" moment. The second pour which happened on another day was even more enjoyable.

If you get a chance, check out the BBC distillery. Not for the distillery, but for the restaurant. The food is off the charts.

              Happy Rye January.

When our son was back for Christmas we finally opened the bottle of Irish Whiskey that he gave me for by birthday last month. We enjoyed it and it is a very smooth whiskey. At 86 proof it is quite mild and has smooth nutty flavor with mild vanilla on the front side. Would recommend it if you like something easy to drink.

I like a hotter whiskey and this Colonel Taylor Barrel Proof is 127 proof. It is a very drinkable bourbon. It has a lot of caramel notes and has a rich finish with a gentle burn after it is swallowed. It is full flavored. I tried it neat, with a very small splash of water, and some on a large cube (hey, I opened it and wanted to try it all three ways). I preferred it neat with a very small splash of water as I think it really brought out all of the flavors. Just my opinion, however, I have found this strategy to bring out more flavors in more whiskeys. Would highly recommend!

I do the same with most 120+ proof whiskey. I prefer a splash or an ice chip. A large cube is great, for a while, but I find myself drinking faster before it dilutes the whiskey too quickly.

Skinsfan1311. I agree. I have decided the small splash of distilled water is my preferred way to have a bit of bourbon or Irish whiskey. I think the water really blooms all of the flavors. Ice, because it cools the bourbon, tends to mask some flavors in my opinion. That said, whiskey is meant to drunk as you enjoy it.

One of Old Forester’s best bourbon.

Since I started my Whiskey journey 3 years ago it’s been pretty much Bourbons and Ryes. Today I am enjoying a Straight Wheat Whiskey.

The internet says this is 52% Wheat, 20% Malted Barley, 20% Corn and 8% Rye.

It has an incredible nose. Apple Cinnamon Bread is the first thing that comes to mind.

The Apple Cinnamon Bread continues on the taste along with a slight hint of chocolate mint candy.

It’s very very smooth. Has a nice sweetness like a Wheated Bourbon but maybe not as bold as a Bourbon. It also doesn’t stay on my palette after a sip like a bourbon or rye does.

If you enjoy a Wheated Bourbon I’d say give it a try. Only $37.99 here in Ohio. Great bottle under $40.

You have any other wheaters to do a side by side? Like Wellers/Makers or similar? I enjoy Woodford anything, so I’ll have to look for this one next month. Thanks for sharing.
