My oldest brother came over last weekend, first time in a long time( my mom’s health). He brought a new beer I had never had before.
Left quite a few in the outside fridge and I liked the packaging.
Terrible!!! Oh man! I will have to think twice before I par boil my snausages in this crap. Click image for larger version

No wonder he left so many for you. That's what brothers do.

Purc shoulda knew sumpin was up. Tastes like old radiator flush. Yes, I have had it in my mouth before, just don't ask.

Was left in the butler pantry fridge by a friend, and looked lonely.

It's Sober October so I'm having this mocktail my wife came up with.

      Italian Greyhound ★★★★
      Mocktail

      Ingredients:

      1 oz lime juice
      1/2 oz simple syrup
      1 1/2 oz Crodino
4.5 oz Fever Tree Sparkling Pink Grapefruit

      Directions:

Build in an Imperial Pint glass (19 oz)
      Fill glass with ice
      Add first 3 ingredients
Top with Fever Tree Sparkling Pink Grapefruit

Alan Brice and it's delicious, refreshing, and has a nice complexity. I haven't snapped a picture yet. I'll try to get one tonight but it's not anything special to look at just a drink in an Imperial stout glass filled with ice.

Good day of work. Four new clients. Celebrating w an olive per client dirty martini.

        Congrats

In days gone by I had a well stocked beer cellar. Dozens of special beers I’d aged for up to a decade in a dedicated, temp-controlled fridge. Life…kids…life…the cellar was depleted and not properly restocked. Just have a handful of bottles these days.

Picked this up today at Costco to see if it’s cellar worthy. Kirkland branded, yet also clearly labeled as Deschutes Brewery of Bend, OR. I’ve had success laying down their beers in the past, and I think this one would do well with a few years of aging. I’m planning to pick up a couple more tomorrow.

2024 “Vintage Ale” - bourbon barrel aged imperial stout. 12% ABV. 9 months in oak. Wrong brand of glass, but proper shape…gotta use what you have!

For those wondering what’s left in my cellar…

2023 Heavy Weight - Stadium Pizza, imperial stout 13%

2019 Anchor Brewing - Our Special Ale (aka Xmas Ale) - Magnum!

2014 Goose Island (pre-ABInBev!) - Vanilla Rye Bourbon County Stout - 13.6%. Received this as a gift about five years ago, so uncertain of how it was handled its first five years of life.

      2012 Firestone Walker - Parabola - barrel aged imperial stout - 12.5%

A 2012 in there!!! Excellent! That’s pretty cool to age these a bit longer. Hope you get back to that a bit…for your future self!!

Wow! This sounds like my whiskey 'cellar' (life, kids, expenses, life, repeat repeat...). I've never liked the bourbon barrel beers or wines, so I stopped trying them rather early on. What say you about this one?

Huskee This one is drinkable, but if you’re trying to find “the one” to get you into this style this probably isn’t it. For $9.99 it’s perfectly acceptable. It’s a bit hot, but I think it will mellow out by aging a year or two.

Really digging this one. A sup'ed up IPA.

For those who don't like IPAs, this one has a lot more of what you don't like. It's super hoppy of course, but strangely smooth considering. Short's never disappoints!

A couple years back I started using the 10-band graphic EQ analogies to explain my thoughts on the qualities of different bourbons and ryes to my BIL and he said it's a great way to explain it. So here's the 10-band EQ way of saying how I feel this tastes:

Santamarina I don't know exactly, I just use it as a way to explain sharpness, midrange mouthfeel, and so on. Works in mine and my BIL's heads.

          HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES! 🍻🎃🍻🎃🍻

Here’s the selection I was working with tonight. The wife requested pumpkin beers, and I’m generally a fan of them as well. Some of these are annual standards, a couple new to me.

Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin - might be the first year they made this (???) - classic pumpkin base, great spice, and a small chili kick to keep things interesting. I’ve never been a fan of New Belgium’s core beers, but their Voodoo Ranger series has some high octane IPAs that are easy drinking. This is a welcome addition to the lineup - sadly, every place around here is sold out. Too bad, was hoping to grab more for Thanksgiving.

Stone Enjoy-By is a trusted friend. Many versions each year, and they’ve had a Halloween release for many years. Always new, and 2024’s version did not disappoint. Nothing particularly “fall/halloween” about it, but it’s a hazy IPA featuring some of my favorite hops. I’ve never had a bad Enjoy-By. Their next release should be 01.01.25 and I’m looking forward to ringing in the new year with one.

Shipyard’s Smashed Pumpkin was a surprise. I’ve had a couple other beers from them over the years and didn’t care for them at all. They won me over with a great label (marketing folks, take note!) and the beer stood up to my expectations. Not overly spiced, but full of flavor and drinks very smooth for a 9% beer.

Dogfish Punkin is an annual favorite, as is the Elesian fall pack - only had these two left from the four in the variety pack.

If you see any of these beers near you do not hesitate to buy them!

Espresso Martini. Too sweet imho for a regular rotation drink but it makes a wonderful dessert 😃

That’s pretty much how I feel about those.
First sip. “OMG this is amazing!”
                Proceed to finish drink.
                Make another…”WTH was I thinking?!”

So yeah, one as a dessert can be a very good thing. And then stop.

              At work..
