All these plants growing and I’m still preparing beds. At the end of last season I realized I had a grub issue so I removed all the soil from all the beds and put it in lots and lots of construction bags which set in the Sun all Winter and Spring. Putting it back into the beds I discovered some grubs had survived. Yesterday I sprayed a total of 10 million nematodes, according to the packages, and will now have to wait a week or so while they search and destroy any remaining grubs and cutworms.
I’m truly envious of all your gardens right now.

My dear departed MIL's favorite flower was the peonie. She had one in her yard that we dug and brought home. Here's a bloom from that plant.

Having plants that were tended by a loved one continue on after their passing is a great comfort.

A decent second harvest of fava beans. Tonight will be pasta with fave, guanciale, and sun dried tomatoes.

Tried some jalapeños in the front instead of the back yard for giggles. Gave them some basil buddies too.

Everything was planted at the same time, the back ones were in the front but grew way too fast so turned the pot around for the shorties. That back left one is on steroids or something!

Anyway already have 4 usable jalapeños that's the earliest I've ever got yield.

This crazy jalapeño plant has taken over the entire planter! It made it through the winter without dying. Soon, I’ll be able to harvest enough peppers for a big batch of poppers.

SheilaAnn or just eat them straight. We love the flavor of jalapenos. Cowboy candy, dried and ground, or let them turn red, smoke dry and you have chipotles.

Itoh Peony. Cross between a tree peony and a herbaceous peony.

I’m not a gardener….but I do enjoy some fresh basil, so a few basil plants and thyme in the back. Going to pick up a few jalapeño plants to fill the space in between and that will be my garden for 2024 😂

Due to Dolly's escape yesterday, she is staying with my son. Hopefully, her escape route will be discovered soon and she will return. I have apple and pear trees that need to be protected.

ID:	1600193 Where we stand today. Lettuce is producing more than a salad per day, as is swiss chard and kale (yup), all the tomatoes and peppers have flowers. replanting radishes as needed.

Oh, yeah, me launching tonight's moon

Wow, a salad a day is some solid production. Love the moon picture, especially seeing Old Glory flying beneath her.

Added to the trough garden this morning. Two Thai Basil, two jalapeño, a sweet shishito and an ancho. I have some motivation to keep these things going this summer! Also going to hook up a drip line to them that I set up 5 years ago and just haven’t put to use. Hoping that helps a bit as well.

and I’m going to ask for advice with this trough garden setup - how often should I be watering and should I do a spray drip, bubbler or laser hole line to water these? Any advice is appreciated! And I’m in New Mexico so hot summers, no humidity - if that helps.

I suggest that you flush the drip line before allowing it to drip. Those emitters have tiny holes.

I'm watering with a drip line that has emitters every 6". I water 3 days a week for 45 minutes each cycle.

Here's an Eastern Red Bud called Flame Thrower that I planted at my MIL's. It's really coloring up great.

Here's my pepper bed. Jalapeño, Shishito, Poblano, Pardon, Jimmy Nardello, Anaheim, Sweet Italian and some green and red bell peppers. You have to look hard for the peppers, I have stakes for each of them when they get growing. I interplanted some lily's and Profusion Zinnias for some color. Gophers have gotten into my raised bed, so I had to use gopher baskets for each plant.

Do most peppers need full sun. I have an area that is shaded and never really gets full sun. Any recommendations?
