I got home from the Meat Up in NC on Monday, bought tomato and pepper plants on Tuesday, and planted them on Wednesday night in three beds. I also have broccoli, Brussels sprouts, onions, garlic, sage, chives, and thyme. Finally getting seasonal weather around here!

        Has anyone grown cauliflower?
I'm trying for the first time this year.
I'm starting to get florets on my broccoli, but so far nada on the cauli... just giant leaves.

          Good looking broccoli!

I have grown cauliflower (Central IN). My 90-something year old grandfather who gardened his entire life said that cauliflower is hit or miss in my our region. He would be satisfied with the cauliflower heads about once in five years.

It's also prone to bug infestation and the sun turning the heads yellow if you don't shield the heads from sunlight.

Keep us posted on the progress!

          (Brian)

As for the rest of my garden, no pictures, but I have some bibb lettuce growing that's close to ready to harvest, and I planted some onions just to try them. They seem to be doing well, but I'm not sure.

I will be planting a few varieties of tomatoes and peppers here in the next few weeks.
Poppop said don't plant 'maters before Mother's Day! I did once. Only once. lost a bunch of plants to a late season hailstorm. I have no doubt he was up in heaven rolling his eyes at me...lol.
Since then, I usually wait until close to the end of May to plant.

I planted my tomatoes on the Ides of March and picked some yesterday. I can't plant lettuce outdoors until October or November though.

The backyard garden. A couple of probably Roma plants in the ground, they were volunteers that I moved but i'm 95% sure they're Roma since that's what I had in that bed last year. Runner and bush beans in the raised bed, and the rosemary tree in the background.

'Maters and peppers in the other beds, and the pepper barrel. And the damn Pain-In-The-Arse lilies my wife won't let me pull out.

And the container garden, which needs some cleanup. The empty barrel is getting ginger and galangal.

That is a clever use of space, and it looks beautiful too!

This could be a stretch for me posting this here, but breakfast this morning was all about fresh green onions, sage, and chives from the garden.

Bacon, cream cheese, and onion egg muffins with sage sour cream topping, and a side of toast.

It's pretty damn satisfying eating food grown by your own hand...

My lovely bride's got her container garden pretty much all in place now. Some tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini; a red lunch cubano-type pepper; eggplant, radishes, carrots, beans; strawberries; and some mixed lettuce greens. Plus plenty of herbs and flowers. She uses these "Greenstalk" towers for a bunch of things, allowing a manageable amount of a bunch of things to be grown. Very space-efficient too. The bulkier edibles are in the containers along our fence.

To be clear, my role in the gardening is strictly manual labor, almost exclusively moving heavy things from there to here. This is all my lovely bride's show.

I would happily be manual labor for someone with such design skills...I wish I had that vision

4 bush beans on the left, two poblano peppers,
one mammoth jalapeño, two husky cherry tomatoes, and two Italian grape tomatoes. In the greenhouse we have two Early Girl tomatoes, and two Beefsteak tomatoes. The other bed has squash and zucchini, and pole beans, but they haven’t sprouted yet.

Got some of my tomatoes and peppers in....still more to come. Will fill in the spots as the lettuce and broccoli get harvested. Also adding another bed in the empty space to the left to bring my total to 4. Need space for more tomatoes..

                Nice!

I’ve had drainage problems in my garden due to silty soil and slope of the yard so this year I’m putting in raised bed and landscape fabric rows. Only things left to do are install drip lines and move seven yards of soil into the raised beds

                Great looking setup!

We planted some herbs this weekend. Holy basil, Thai basil, Italian basil, thyme, and oregano. We had trailing rosemary and thyme in the beds already.

Two weekends ago we put in a barrier around an existing bamboo stand.

I did some major culling of the bamboo a couple days ahead of digging the 55' trench. That dogwood is appreciating it already.

Alan Brice I may use it to finish off the last bit of my outdoor kitchen too when I build in the wok burner. Also, my wife wants me to make a very small pergola to support some wisteria.

Alan Brice I believe soaking the ends in borax would have been the way to go.

With my back, bending over to tend a garden is problematic, so I'm down to tomatoes and corn. I'm not messing with pole beans. SWMBO planted green peppers, cukes, zukes, and squash.

You can see the pvc frame for our blueberries in the bg with the veggies in front. The corn was slow to sprout because we had an extremely heavey rain that buried the seeds deeper than they should be.

BTW - if you soak your corn seeds for an hour up to overnight, they will germinate faster.
