I’m not a gardener….but I do enjoy some fresh basil, so a few basil plants and thyme in the back. Going to pick up a few jalapeño plants to fill the space in between and that will be my garden for 2024 😂

Due to Dolly's escape yesterday, she is staying with my son. Hopefully, her escape route will be discovered soon and she will return. I have apple and pear trees that need to be protected.

ID:	1600193 Where we stand today. Lettuce is producing more than a salad per day, as is swiss chard and kale (yup), all the tomatoes and peppers have flowers. replanting radishes as needed.

Oh, yeah, me launching tonight's moon

Wow, a salad a day is some solid production. Love the moon picture, especially seeing Old Glory flying beneath her.

Added to the trough garden this morning. Two Thai Basil, two jalapeño, a sweet shishito and an ancho. I have some motivation to keep these things going this summer! Also going to hook up a drip line to them that I set up 5 years ago and just haven’t put to use. Hoping that helps a bit as well.

and I’m going to ask for advice with this trough garden setup - how often should I be watering and should I do a spray drip, bubbler or laser hole line to water these? Any advice is appreciated! And I’m in New Mexico so hot summers, no humidity - if that helps.

I suggest that you flush the drip line before allowing it to drip. Those emitters have tiny holes.

I'm watering with a drip line that has emitters every 6". I water 3 days a week for 45 minutes each cycle.

Here's an Eastern Red Bud called Flame Thrower that I planted at my MIL's. It's really coloring up great.

Here's my pepper bed. Jalapeño, Shishito, Poblano, Pardon, Jimmy Nardello, Anaheim, Sweet Italian and some green and red bell peppers. You have to look hard for the peppers, I have stakes for each of them when they get growing. I interplanted some lily's and Profusion Zinnias for some color. Gophers have gotten into my raised bed, so I had to use gopher baskets for each plant.

Do most peppers need full sun. I have an area that is shaded and never really gets full sun. Any recommendations?

Yes, mine do best in full sun.

Mia is growing some tomatoes. Never had luck with them in this climate, but we are off to a good start this time.

Here's some more pics of the ongoing project I'm doing at my MIL's. If you want what looks like a light on in your garden try The Golden Spirit Smokebush it is a newer cultivar of Cotinus, `Ancot` when the sun hits it just right it's great.

Slugs. CDC put out a warning several years ago to avoid eating vegetables damaged by slugs due to parasites and other bugs they can leave behind. The do like beer so a few beer traps will help if you don’t want to use a chemical killer.

Yogi came by today to sample our blueberry patch. Had to run him off and pick before he comes back!
