Mrs JC is obsessed with her dahlias. Some of them are absolutely spectacular.

Finster I’m not very educated on dahlias. More just an appreciator, so I’m not sure what you’re asking. However if you’re inquiring about the type of dahlia pictured I can say with confidence it’s a Penhill Watermelon.

        Oooooh!

I have been totally amiss. Not cooking as much as before, but peppers are easy to grow and harvest.

      Today's harvest.

I have thus far put up 32 1/2 pints, and the plants are still producing.

          Excellent!

Our little urban garden exploded w basil recently. I see a lot of pesto in the near future. 425g of just the leaves after we plucked them off the stems. Mrs JC has a green thumb.

Sad news today. Apparently a ninja deer made it past all my elaborate security measures and pulled one of my pineapples off its stalk. It was cut down before reaching its prime size and weight, but the necropsy revealed it was still delicious. Thankfully it is survived by several close family members who survived the wanton destruction. 😞

Kim wanted something for the new deck so l used a shovel to separate an isolated shoot this spring.
I am so impressed with these plants. I only water them.
The electric wires in back are abt 30 feet high.
This is the first year they have grown above that height. Musa Basjoo is the technical name I believe. Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_6685.jpg Views:	0 Size:	3.94 MB ID:	1776186

Summer is definitely over here. Yesterday we closed up the pool and today I picked our last three tomatoes so all my gardening will be in my dreams until after New Years, Not my finest tomatoes but the joy of eating vine ripened tomato sandwiches for my next three lunches here at the end of October will make up for any flaws.

                    Absolutely lovely!

Last year I got a really late start on my pepper plants and the result was a low yield; I made half as much hot sauce as 2024. I was using the Jiffy pellet system but for this year I bought some trays and reusable six cell seedling pots from Bootstrap Farmer. Each try holds 12 of the six cell seedling pots. Today I planted 24 of those pots for a total of 144 seedling cells, two seeds per cell. I have one more tray but I'm waiting on some jalapeno and Serrano seeds before I plant those 72 cells.

                  The peppers I planted:

                  Shishito
                  Hot Long Cayenne
                  Aleppo
                  Peter
                  Zia Pueblo
                  Antep Aci Dolma
                  Hungarian Wax
                  Leutschauer Paprika
                  Szegedi 179 Paprika
                  Alma Paprika
                  Sugar Rush Stripey
                  Scotch Bonnet
                  Chile Petine (Chiltepin)

I've gotten 2 cabbages so far from my fall planting! Made one into sauerkraut (ready in 2 weeks!). Curly Kale still looks good, pac choy went to seed and the below freezing temps burnt it badly. I put a sheet out to protect my other 4 cabbage plants and the kale from last night's low temps. Getting my seed trays ready!

I'm pretty impressed with my new seedling tray system. In the past I've used Jiffy Pellets but this year I bought a system from Bootstrap Farmer: 1020 trays and humidity domes https://www.bootstrapfarmer.com/coll...rays-and-flats

For the seedling pots I used these: https://www.bootstrapfarmer.com/coll...inserts-colors 12 of the seedling pots fit into one 1020 tray.

It usually took two weeks or longer for the seeds in the Jiffy Pellets to sprout. One week ago I planted 144 peppers and about half have sprouted already. I used Ferti-Loam seed starter soil and I'm using a Ferry-Morse heat mat to keep the seed trays warm along with some grow lights from Ferry-Morse.
