Our garden got off to a slow start this year due to weather and the need to treat the beds for some soil living pest but it is rapidly catching up. Basic summary is 10 tomato plant (5 varieties ) 10 pepper plants (5 varieties) and then the others like eggplants, squashes, zucchini, horseradish, okra, peas, beans. and a few others including some herbs.

'Tiny Tim' aka Tidy Treats is getting some ripe maters…we also picked up a Dragon Roll pepper, unseen…anyone grow these?

          Comment

There are three teeny peppers on it. Here's the updated garden photo, but 'Tiny Tim' and his flowers are hiding the pepper.

            Great space

Today I was weeding our apple trees and took a quick snap of one of them, our Arkansas Black tree. The fence is to keep deer from damaging them too much.

Donw that sounds like a wonderful tradition

Fresh off the vine this morning! Black cherry, sun cherry, and Juliets, which are a Roma/grape hybrid. Also an Anaheim pepper. Oh and two early girls.

Great to see the tomatoes getting ripe in Maryland. Walked the garden this morning and while plenty of large tomatoes on the vines none are close to ripe yet. Last year many were ripe starting on the 4th of July. So there is still hope. On the other hand peppers are coming in left and right.

Peppers are starting to come in pretty strong, and a few early girls were ready.
First batch of Cowboy Candy, and small batch of salsa...

Maybe it’s a scale thing, but that looks like a big ole early girl!

SheilaAnn, it's like a baseball. Label says Early Girl Plus (unless this was mislabeled, it's happened before), and several are ripening. But the leaves are turning purple and the plant overall doesn't look great.

Thanks SheilaAnn, that could be it!

I'll try some Miracle Gro treatments.

I believe the dirt in my garden trough is lacking nutrients. The basil is doing fine, but the various peppers I’ve planted just aren’t doing anything. I’ve had no flowers on either jalapeno plant, only one ancho pepper shown here, but the shishito peppers started off with a bang then just stopped. There’s still some buds on the plant but they haven’t done anything…reminds me why I don’t garden but I used the shishitos today for some breakfast tacos. The ancho…I’ll use it soon, it’s actually turning red which I don’t mind.

I should have asked this before I used the MG, but is that ok for my various pepper plants?

Try mixing in worm castings and peat moss to your existing soil., 1 to 1. The worm castings are a great long term fertilizer and the peat moss helps retain moisture in the soil. Not sure what temperatures you have been experiencing but this combo has helped us here with all the 90+ degree weeks. Just my 2¢.

We only have Dragon Roll peppers (shishitolike), but we fed 'em and they are gangbusters now.

Today's haul from the jalapeño plant

There is one little datil pepper plant hanging in there in the underbrush. I'll cut the jalapeno back some more in a couple of weeks to make more room for it.

Meanwhile, there were many to harvest today since we were gone a week and a half.

hoovarmin I don't feed it at all. Last fall, when setting up the planter, I used bagged Miracle Gro potting soil for the top couple of feet. I think the plant just got all cocky when it was the only thing left late in the spring when I finally pulled out the Romaine that had gone stringy.

Ok…so plants like to eat like my 19yo son does…feed them and they grow! Who knew?????

these are just the basil and Thai basil plants - man have they ever plumped up! And my various pepper plants are all budding now! The shishito is coming back alive and my jalapeno plants each have about 6 buds that I can see. This after two feedings of Miracle Grow!! The regular basil was doing ok, but the Thai basil really has done well over last week, as the leaves have really increased in size.
