Just finished planting the bulk of the garden: 80 pepper, 32 tomato, and 26 corn starts. Still to come: beets, onions, basil, garlic, carrots, squash and radishes. In the ground already: potatoes, garlic, and assorted herbs.
Hard to believe there was 2 inches of snow on the ground a week ago, but I have a feeling this is going to be a great garden year.

I take no credit for that Don, Collette is the Garden Master of the family, I just follow instructions, swing the boom-boom grande to pound in stakes, and pick up heavy things.
This is our first full summer in our current house and the first time we did a garden. There were already some raised beds and irrigation in place which is nice. We have an apple tree and a cherry tree not shown as well.
2 varieties of strawberries and a few weeds
Carrots and two cucumber plants. And a watermelon plant that didn't make it.
Sweet corn and a bunch of weeds.
Raspberries. Lots of rogue raspberries popping up all around this bed too
Nice lookin' garden. It is recommended to have at least four rows of corn with at least four plants in each row for proper pollination. You will probably need to hand pollinate each ear as the silks appear. You can check youtube on how to do it if you don't know, but look at a number of videos because knowing what you are doing is not a prerequisite for posting on youtube...

My wife calls me "Teddy" and I call her "Princess" and that's where "mrteddyprincess" comes from.
Never has it taken this long to get my garden in the ground. Feeling the pain of the farmers whose livelihood depends on such things. Six boxes. Peppers, tomatoes, and herbs:
Broccoli, onions, zuchinni, yellow squash, cucumbers, and flowers (last four are still germinating).
And lastly, I had to throw in a pic of two tools that are worth the world to me. Many years ago when I began gardening, my grandfather, who was a lifelong gardener and farmer, made me custom garden hoes from old combine parts. He's been gone going on two years now, and I can't help but think about him every time I pick one of these up.
And I should also mention that Grandpa is gone but not forgotten in another way, too. My gardening buddy is named after Grandpa. Roy's my buddy.
Wonderful! I have a lot of my Dad's and older brother's tools and they are treasures. Looks like you have a pretty good partner riding shotgun with you, howdy Roy!
The older I get, the smaller my garden gets... This year i am down to tomatoes, corn, and butter beans. There are also 6 blueberry plants and several hundred day lilies inside the 9' fence. Deer love the blooms.
Very nice Ron. So yesterday my wife gets home from work and walks out to the also-deer-fenced garden to see the gate that was propped open all night and the next day! She thought I closed it and I thought she closed it, but thankfully no intruders entered. Man, they would have eaten everything down to nubs in minutes and our lazy-arsed dogs would have just watched them do it!
CaptainMike - I have only left a gate open once and also got lucky. But before I put this fence up, the old one was in sad shape and the deer got through it just before the day lily buds started to open. They ate several thousand buds in one night. I think I had 3 blooms that year...
When I started my career a good friend said to retire at the earliest possible time you can. I thought it was strange advice then, but not any more. The water's great, my friend, jump on in as soon as you can!
Peppers are coming along nicely. I have JalapeƱo, Pepperoncini, Big Thai, Hot Lemon, and Real Deal growing here. Tallest plant so far is at 12 inches alread.
Peppers and tomato starts in the grow tent. We are still about a month out from being safe from a freeze so they are coming along nicely. 22 varieties of peppers and 12 types of tomatoes. Itās one of the few things brightening up my days now.
This is Wisconsin & the only thing green around here is evergreens, unless they are everbrowns, which means theyāre dead. Donāt even think about it til May.
This is how you SIP Hambone style. We bought this greenhouse from my sister 10 or 11 years ago and it has made 2 moves with us and helped with many gardens, and not just ours. Collette nurtured all of the starts, and I FINALLY installed the heating and ventilation control system. Planting the garden in about a month.
Mr. Bones it's a Sunglo. My sister bought it with all the good intentions of using it, but it sat crated in her yard for 2-3 years. I forgot what I paid her for it, but it wasn't much and since her house was in escrow she was happy just to get rid of it. I built a wooden deck mounted on 4 X 8 PT skids so I can move it around the property if needed. It's a pretty nice unit and we really enjoy using it. http://www.sunglogreenhouses.com/
Still to early to plant here in Utah, but the plants are coming along great. Although they are quickly becoming overcrowded. Iām hopeful that In the next two weeks they will be ready to go.
I'm about to be a first-time homeowner next month and there's a 20'x30' fenced in garden in the backyard. I have a few herb seedlings and a 36 cell germination tray full of various things. I have no idea what I'm doing so we'll see how this goes lol
There's a ton of info out there right at your fingertips, but it generally boils down to a bit of water, a little fertilizer, plenty of sunshine, and pluck a weed or two from time to time. I can't imagine not having a garden.
