Fired up the KBQ this morning for my son's birthday party tonight. Smoking two beef briskets now, and some pork ribs later today.

I've had my KBQ for about a month now, and though I still like it allot - one thing I think it lacked was height. So I made a modification: I added adjustable legs. It solved two issues: the lack of height, as well as keeping the smoker level when smoking on unleveled ground. What do you think?

Yes, these were mounts and legs from a floor tom. The mounts from my drum didn't work because the spacing between the holes were different than what was on the KBQ. I found some mounts on eBay that matched, and suffice to say that my floor tom no longer has legs now. But the sacrifice was worth it.

Alecksjaycubs,
The mount is a Yamaha-FLOOR TOM LEG BRACKET-# U0160396. Here's the link to a seller on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222008083090...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
The legs were from my old Pearl Export floor tom, but most floor tom legs should fit the mounts nicely. Besides that, I bought some bolts and washers from Home Depot for about $6.
The work entailed drilling bigger holes in the KBQ, but that was about it.

Hi, KBQ fans - new member here. Ernest and Spinaker and a few others have posted so much great stuff about the KBQ, and I read Max's review as well. Bill K answered a few questions for me directly, and he seems like a super nice and knowledgeable guy. I told him Ernest sold me on it, and he just laughed. I really like what I've read about it so far.
I was originally planning to head down the pellet grill path, but the KBQ seems to trade some SIFI and price for more smoke flavor. American made and stainless steel tick a couple more boxes for me as well. Having never had a smoker, and coming from a gas grill, is it dumb for me to order a KBQ? I feel like I'm skipping a rite of passage or something... Any advice is much appreciated, although I'm just about ready to pull the trigger. Just don't want to find out I'm too much of a rookie to handle this thing.

I have always lived by the motto of buy the best you can afford. If you can afford it and won't have buyer's remorse once the payment has been sent, then go for it and don't look back! If you ever feel guilty about a rite of passage, then go have lunch at the nearest BBQ joint that serves mediocre BBQ and your guilty feelings will soon pass.

AS others have said. You wont regret your decision. In my opinion, the hardest part of owning the KBQ is acquiring the wood to burn in it. There are many sources that you can tap for wood, however. Tree companies, saw mills, landscapers to name a few. You can always cut your own. I cut and split my own fuel. It helps to off set the increase in smoked meats that you will be eating.Originally posted by badf00d View PostHi, KBQ fans - new member here. Finding fuel is the hardest part, and its not that difficult. You will not regret this decision. You will be making the best damn BBQ you've ever tasted. Congrats on joining the KBQ and stick burner brotherhood. I can't recommend the KBQ enough. Trust me you will be happy with your decision.

Ok, I started the ordering process.
Just waiting for my formal quote from Bill after submitting my details. [Update]: I completed the ordering process! Can't wait...
My dad has a decent batch of seasoned apple wood I can get started with, and I will order a B&D Alligator. Now I'll have to look for a list of essentials to get started with a smoker.
