One of my drinkingest friends turned 40 recently and had some people out at a bar this past weekend. I have been taking it relatively easy lately and was planning on sipping some beer but otherwise being pretty good. I thought I ordered a "Double Nickel" beer (local brewery) but was handed a double Maker's, neat. So much for sipping beer. I guess my reputation precedes me.

Birthday today, 3 score+1. Dinner out tonight with my wife and 3 daughters, son is in Chicago. New steakhouse locally with a decent whiskey list. Had a couple WTRB with apps, Guinness with my cowboy steak. Good steak. Had a chocolate something or other cake for dessert with a cappuccino and a fernet branca. Hot tub post dinner, nice pour RR13 …

Just polished off a whiskey sour made with some Wild Turkey Rare Breed. I like a cherry or two in sours and today it was Woodford Reserve Bourbon Cherries. I'm not sure what my wife paid for them but taste wise they're not much different than the grocery store variety. The syrup and cherries have the color of Luxardo's but they're a long ways from the taste. I'm not a cherry snob, I'll happily do the grocery cherries in my sour, but wanted to share my impressions with others that might be wondering about the Woodford cherries.
