Cognac? Give us a lil taste. Yer likes n dislikes. Where'd ya get?

Alan Brice I'm no expert but have been trying to round out bar, with bottles that aren't whisky. Armagnac is similar to Cognac, but is more viscous i.e. it has a thicker mouthfeel than Cognac. I tried this one at a friends, and liked it enough to buy one. It has a pleasant, toffee & slightly cinnamon flavor that is just sweet enough not to be cloying. It's a very nice pour after a good meal.

Back to where it all started for me on my bourbon journey.
My bourbon journey started back in August of 2023. I randomly bought a bottle of Buffalo Trace to make vanilla extract. The reason I chose Buffalo Trace has something to do with my fondness of a certain sports team. GO BILLS! At the time I had no idea how popular Buffalo Trace was and how difficult it is to find sometimes. I sampled a bit of the Buffalo Trace before I used the rest of the bottle to make vanilla extract and decided that it was something nice to sip on.
Now 1 year and 7 months later I’ve bought 44 different bottles of bourbon and have enjoyed probably 80% of them.
My three favorite bottles to this point have probably been:
Tom’s Foolery Ohio Straight Bourbon
Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bulleit 12 Year RyeLast edited by ssandy_561; March 28, 2025, 07:37 PM.

This Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is delicious. 124.2 proof. Has good Carmel flavor and (I always detect) a nutty flavor with EC bourbons. Has cinnamon on the front side and a pleasant burn (I like hotter whiskeys). With a bit of water (no ice) it really opens and Carmel notes become more predominant. If you add ice the heat becomes really tame and other flavors move to the front and it mutes that which is present solely with the addition of water (it’s noticeable to my untrained palate). Left to my own devices would drink neat with a splash of water. That said, it’s a good “daily drinker” as it isn’t hard to find or over-the-top in pricing
