Meathead I was chatting with another Pit member and we both realized (as I'm sure you do also) that Mr. Bones (and probably his family) didn't have much money. Perhaps the best the Pit could do is establish a fund that we could all contribute to, if we desire, to help defray the expenses that the family is sure to have.
Bonesy's actual funeral is covered by the military, since he's a combat vet and a disabled vet. But there will be plenty of other expenses. There always are.
Worth a thought.

I am coming in late to this news. It just hit me like a punch in the gut. I am heart broken. I have only known Bonsey for a short time, but he quickly grew to be a good friend. He and I talked 'offline' several times on the phone, mostly about our shared time in the military, and swapping stories and adventures from Desert Storm. I have tremendous respect for him; I just can't overstate that.
What a guy. It just doesn't seem real.

This is so sad to hear. It didn't matter if you were posting in the Pit ten times per day or once a year, you could always count on Mr. Bones for a 'like' and probably a an encouraging comment to go with it. It seemed like he always had the ability to make you feel better with just a few words. If you were down about how a cook went, he made you feel ok. If you felt good about a cook, he made you feel even better. Reading through these fourteen pages of comments, it is clear his ability to lift you up extended so far beyond the world of cooking. In a world that could use a few more souls like Mr. Bones, it's sad to lose the one and only.

My first reaction was short and not much said. Between my emotional loss, my crazy work right now, and the impact of significant travel, my energy level was way off.
But honestly, this also seems to have tripped some of my own triggers …. This isn’t the first of my service comrades that I have lost while still being here myself. But being here when they are gone …. Well, it is tough. And as I said, it seems to have hit some of my own triggers.
This hurts. I miss you Bonesy

jumbo7676 remarked that Bones would always make you feel welcome. I went back and found my first post here, which was introducing myself. Bones noted the cat in my then-avatar and posted a photo of one of his cats with his smokers. He was the second person to welcome me here. It is hard to work through that he is no longer here.
