"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." ~Benjamin Franklin
I just got back into town where I have better internet service. I started reading through this thread and, wow!!, 5 pages and 186 posts so far. Mr. Bones Has truly touched us all with his kindness and encouragement. Yesterday I was at the Texas Meadfest and I drank a bourbon barrel-aged mead in his honor. I can't finish reading all of the posts, too hard right now. Thanks again Panhead John for calling me and letting me know the other night.

Captain Mike let me know what had happened. I wasn’t looking at The Pit very much the last couple weeks, work has been crazy and I had my first out of the country trip in 2 years. I was, and am, devastated. Bones and I connected in so many ways. One of my favorite people. And our military service and Desert Storm were deep and abiding connections.
I’m going to miss you Bones …. Rest In Peace brother …. May your demons be gone forever now.

I assume at some point someone will share his service details, but if anyone hears about future plans for Arlington, please let me know ASAP and I'll do my best to be there.

DaveD I have a few friends I haven't talked to in a while there... obviously depends what he and his family want, but I hope if that was one of his choices I can make the drive up and have a few words with all of them

Oh man... oh man oh man oh man.
I am sorely gonna miss that old cooter. I only live a couple of hours from him, and always 'meant' to make the trip and share a beer. Now it's too late. Crap on a cracker, how many times do we all say these things? "I always meant to...."
Bonsey, you were an inspiration, and your style of writin' an' talkin' and BBQin' and MCSin' will always be remembered. Truly a sad day, I haven't been in The Pit much this week, so I missed this whole thing until now.
But it's 13 minutes 'till 7PM and I'm gonna join the fellas in hoisting one for Bonesy. Anyone gonna livestream on YouTube or anything? Zoom get-together or what-have-ya?
I'm truly sad... shocked. Dangit.
If it weren't for our profanity filter, I'd have a whole lot more to say....
<edit> And dangit, looks like I missed the online group toast by a full day, as well. Oh well, I'ma go add my contribution.Last edited by realdocBBQ; February 27, 2022, 06:57 PM.

I'm still in shock but it's time to share.
RIP Bonsey
I am a hillbilly living in the flat lands. Reading many of his posts I could hear a voice from home because he wrote like so many of my relatives talk. I suppose I do too because I have had people look at me and say "you ain't from around here r ye?" I have an empty place in my heart and tears in my eyes as I type this.

One new years eve we were yakking back and forth and he posted a pic of himself in full garb about to go out on a mission in Viet Nam, it was one of the most poignant images of a man I remember ever seeing.
smokin fool I remembered him posting that pic, so I searched through his pictures and found it. I’m sure it’s not from Vietnam, but it does look like it.

The cigarette, and maybe the "Jack," might have had something to do with his early demise, as well. I was alarmed by how thin he was in some of his pictures over the past couple of years and expressed my concern to him in a PM. He acknowledged that he was underweight (just the opposite of so many of us here) but was non-committal after that. I didn't push it out of respect for his privacy.
