Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.
Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.
We all know he had a few Kettles. Again, thinking out loud. This would have to be his families decsion. What if they donated them to a Veteran cause giving cookers to Vet's. I know he would be 1st in line to support that.

There can be no truly glad feelings of a friends passing but there absolutely can be happy thoughts and memories to share.
I got to thinking about Mr. Bones recent question, and it was one he mentioned more than once on this forum.
It had to do with the friend he rescued and being blessed by being marked on the Tree of Life.
Mr. Bones now has the answer to his question, and if I were a betting Girl I would put my money onMr. Bones being very well satisfied at seeing his answer and finally seeing the blessings he earned.
Courage and sacrifice will always be rewarded in Valhalla and then Heaven. I would wager Mr. Bones has access to both.Last edited by Debra; February 26, 2022, 05:05 PM.

Reminded of a old poem: I stopped to watch some men tearing down a building in my home town,
with a heave and a yell, they swung a beam and the side wall fell.
I asked the foreman "are these men as skilled as the ones you would need to build"?
He laughed and replied "no no indeed, for you see the most common labor is all I need,
I can destroy in a day or two what it takes a builder many years to do.
I thought to myself as I went my way, how will I be remembered one day?
Am I tearing things down as I make my way carelessly around OR am I building
with care so this world will be just a little bit better because I was there!
Mr. Bones lived his life to help others and has left this world a little better because he was here. Thank you my friend, you will be missed.

Reading through this whole thread really makes you realize what we have here. Never forget that we are a family bonded not only by BBQ and our love of it, but by something much deeper.....community. Bones was a corner stone of our community as all of you have shown here today.
I know Bones would have down played his role in all of this, but that is just who he was. I hope he is riding into the sunset in the ole' Blue Belle, windows down, wind on his face, listen to some old country tunes.
RIP my friend, RIP indeed. I hope we can all take a page out of his book and be kind to those around you, even when it is not the easy thing to do. The world lost a great one. (Tears flowing)
(This was a few years back, when our dear friend, Dan Johnston passed away and Bones was having a drink in his honor. Bonesy always had a way about him. A truly gentle soul and one we should all be thankful for)

I have a Hasty Bake that I won right here on Amazing Ribs ! Also have a pellet grill but the HB is the best for daytime BBQ. Like my Thermoworks chef alarm and heat resistant gloves.
Sad news indeed. I'm new here but knew he was the real thing from his posts . It's a great thing that his words will be saved here on the Pitmaster, for us to look back on, savor and remember.

Was gonna post this in SUWYC but it got me thinking of Mr. Bones Long time ago, for reasons I won't mention, I stumbled into a little burger joint outside Pittsburgh TX where my dads farm is. I ordered a cheese burger and fries, and settled in. The burger was amazing, so good, it got to be a must for me anytime I was out that way. Then one day the joint was closed. Fast forward some years, and I joined amazing ribs. Met this fellow Mr. Bones who really made me feel at home. We really clicked, and started exchanging PM. A couple years later, I was involved in an accident that blew off two of my fingers. At first they were going to amputate my hand, but they save the hand, and were able to reattach the fingers. Of course its not the same, and I had to give up powerlifting, and martial arts. During the mess, he noticed I had stopped posting, and started PM me like crazy to check on me. We exchanged numbers, and he gave me a call, more like a peptalk. Made me feel so much better I was back here in no time. Funny thing is, during that call I realized we had met, well sorta. He was the cook on the griddle at that burger joint so many years ago before moving to Kansas. Probably the best burger I ever ate. I feel fortunate to have known you Mr. Bones , as well as to have been privileged enough to have dined on your cuisine. A burger, simple on paper plates and fries seem fitting and a reminder of how we first sorta met. I'll think of you every time I eat one. Here's to you brother. Dispenser of wisdom, mender of souls, and pittmaster extraordinar. See you soon brother.

I’ve really got nothing. But, I will try. He was a one-of-a-kind man on this site. He welcomed me with open arms as he did most of you (at the time he only had 9000-some posts). He was smart, funny, a patriot, and always, always, kind to the members of this forum. I am very, very sad for many reasons. He always referred to retiring back in Texas, and he will never have that joy. I was so looking forward to meeting him at the Texas meat-up, and now I won’t have that experience. And I was concerned that I hadn’t had his comments on my post leaving some songs on his 60th birthday post—very unlike him. I hope he saw it, listened, and liked it.
I know he is in a better place. May God give his family peace and comfort. Rest In Peace, Bones. I will miss you every time in log in.

Weber 22" Kettle Premium w/Slow N' Sear 2.0
Pit Barrel Cooker
Grilla Grills Chimp
W.C. Bradley & Co. Char Kettle CK-115 ~1980s Vintage Grill (inactive)
I am legitimately in shock, like everyone. One thing he and I had in common is that we both worked for large public universities and I will truly miss our conversations about that little bit of absurdity we shared.
