Soooooo, about that new winner... Ya know how contests are free to enter, and no purchase is necessary? Turns out the Gold Medal Giveaway has caught the attention of sweepstakes fanatics and they've started deluging our PO Box with entries. One of them just got picked as the winner this month. They were notified yesterday but have yet to respond. I'll keep y'all posted.

Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

David Parrish "Turns out the Gold Medal Giveaway has caught the attention of sweepstakes fanatics and they've started deluging our PO Box with entries." Does this mean one person can send multiple entries or there are lots of people entering or both? I guess I thought that since the Gold Metal Giveaway was listed as a perk of the Pit, it was limited to he Pit.

I'm not 100% sure of this but I believe that any contest or sweepstakes has to by law be open to anyone, regardless of purchase or not and all entries have to be treated equally. An example would be a drawing that's pulled from a barrel where all of the entries received from non-purchasers or participants were thrown into the bottom while the entries from participants were placed on top. That's not legal, they have to be treated equally.
A way around it is to adopt a lottery format where you have to pay to be included in the draw, i.e. Pit Members. What the ramifications are of doing that I don't know, it might have an affect on the prizes offered. Instead of a winners choice setup it might be restricted to a single item being raffled each month and that's what the winner receives. There could be tax implications to both the winner and the sponsor or a myriad of other things. Someone better versed than me in lottery/sweepstakes laws would have to address that.

I think that if my social club had a giveaway at the annual Christmas party I wouldn't have to include anyone extra.

After thinking about it a lottery format might not work either because they're essentially illegal, you can't require someone to pay to enter. Although the argument could be made that Pit Members aren't paying to enter a sweepstakes, we're paying for the wealth of knowledge we obtain from access to the forums, videos, etc.
Tough one to judge but in the end my guess is that this has all been looked into before and the way it's set up now is the only feasible way to do it.

This is great news. I'm going to have my whole family sign up. : ) My odds go up! I'm the BBQ cook so I get to run the new pit. I don't have to donate it to OBR if one of them win! ( I committed to that in a post if I won)
It just keeps getting better.
