drgrind Nice post! Great to hear your perspective! I agree, many folks are readers and don't have to post to be active.
We have 10,700+ members, and of that vBulletin lists 1,800+ as "active". Does active mean posting? Or does active mean simply logging in weekly, monthly? Who cares. Basically 17 out of 100 members are "active", meaning 83 out of 100 are not active. And that's just Club members. Non Club members can enter too. The odds of an active member winning are obviously much slimmer.
Like had been mentioned, ALL paying members support Amazing Ribs, not just the active ones. Plus the contest is open to non-Pitmaster Club members (has to be, legally) who feel like sending in a entry, so we factor that in too.
And... we should strive to make an honest effort to _ALWAYS_(!) log into Amazon.com using the tinyURL below, to link and assist http://amazingribs.com/
Financially it costs you nothing, but is an important assist that helps to make this site successful. Try it now, then bookmark the link for future use.
Tip: Save this bookmark into your "Bookmarks Toolbar"  Then when you want to go to Amazon for whatever, click that link at the top of your browser page, knowing that you just assisted Amazing Ribs with an important but slight amount of: 'profit' which provides the ability and opportunity to serve you tomorrow.
According to his profile he's 77 years old, I'd give him a couple extra days to respond.
The age is correct, but that indicates experience, not senility! ;-] Fact is, I just could not believe it was true! I guess we would call that concern about the "No Free Lunch Syndrome" heh .. heh ... Sigh, today's problems with those whom would be invasive and intrusive cause false guards. We all get mail everyday from Africa about the millions of dollars awaiting our recognition.
Anyways, w/Dave the Pitboss' help, I was convinced. HEY! Maybe I was just seeking attention... If so, it really worked! Eh? Right? Grin.....
Hey I got a few million waiting for me too from some barrister in Nigeria. How nice of them to send it all straight to us for only a $200 transfer fee. I'm letting it build interest before claiming!

As I was reading some of the congratulatory posts (thanks by the way), I can see that there might be some questioning the fairness of a member with 0 [zero] prior posts winning a nice giveaway like this. I assure you, I am most grateful for this opportunity to win such an amazing gift. And for the record, Mr. Parrish is correct in assuming some people are not that into posting on forums. I see this on several of the motorcycle forms I subscribe to. There are people who lurk there for years before finally becoming an active member. I usually only contribute if I have something worth posting. And because I'm fairly new to this way of cooking, I feel I don't have enough knowledge to contribute anything worthwhile, so I just absorb what information I can.
Nothing wrong with reading but not posting. You paid your membership you are thus just as eligible as any other member. Nothing unfair about that at all. Congrats.
Well said drgrind, and I think this is a common feeling of many of our less frequent (read never) posters. One thing we want folks to know though is that we're passionate about barbecue and we're friendly, willing , and able to help anyone learn how to do it! It's much easier to help folks when they fess up and let us know what they know and don't know. We love first time cook threads and first time new grill threads.
Thanks again for your words. Let's hope this chat reaches some of these folks and gives them the nudge to hit that "post reply" button.
Blaze 32†4-Burner with Rear Burner on Cart, MSRP $2,250
Blaze is a new brand with an interesting history. Parent company, ShoppersChoice.com, carries a vast catalog of products for cooking, grilling and entertaining, including a variety of popular gas grill brands.
This basic model has few frills, but is beautifully made in high grade 304 stainless steel with a seamless welded hood and 8mm stainless rod grates. It has four heavy, cast stainless burners with 14,000 BTU each. An excellent variable temp, 10,000 BTU rear IR backburner is included for the optional rotisserie. Flame stabilizing grids blanket the burners to spread heat and reduce flare ups. Removable dividers between each of the main burners accentuate heat zone separation.
On High, the mains can it 650°, with the optional IR ceramic sear burner, Blaze blasts to 850°. It’s a breeze to swap out one of the mains for the sear burner, because all burners slide in and out of valve posts at the front by the control panel and are held in place by cotter pins at the back: no tools needed. Aren't all paid membership members of amazingribs.com's "The Pit" forum basically "family"? Therefore, I wouldn't mind if the moderators would/could be eligible for the Gold Medal Giveaways just like the rest of us as long as it random and fair just like it is for the rest of us. Happy BBQing!
When do you announce the winner each month? My son's birthday is on the 10th of April, Id love to tell him Daddy's gettin a new grill to cook his favorite pulled pork, or "the meat that takes all night to cook" as he calls it...
