Perhaps for a different reason, I disagree, CeramicChef . Just a touch of local water provides a nice cut, and in my opinion, helps bring out the flavor for me. But that is just me.

I understand, richinlbrg, to each their own. And I've run into some whiskeys that I have cut with water and they taste much better. For me those have been less expensive, i.e. less aged, and needed to be mellowed.

But what I don't understand is why add more water to something that is already more than half water to begin with? Why not just dilute the whiskey even more at the distillery?

Do 't have a good answer on that, but I do know that I have always heard that it should be local water, as in not bottled.

      Got me.

I usually just use an ice cube made from local water.

I usually don't drink it neat.

My go to Scotch is Lagavulin 16 ... It's very reasonably priced and an outstanding single malt. Just enough peat to know you are drinking an Islay, but not so much that you have to chew your way through it like Laphroaig. In addition, I have a bottle of Glen Devron 20 year old, which you can't get in the US. It's really, really good. And a bottle of Bunnhaiban 21 year old curated by Battlehill. This is absolutely the finest bottle of whisky I've ever had. If you can afford the price tag, I can't recommend this highly enough.

My go to Bourbon is Woodford Reserve. Great with a splashes of water for sipping, but also makes an excellent Manhattan or Old Fashioned (for those inclined to make those with Bourbon).

My current fun, local whisky is Woodinville Whiskey's Microbarreled Rye ... Really good rye from a local distillery in WA. I go about 3 parts Rye, 1 part soda water, maybe a couple of ice cubes. Yum.

That is a tough call! Cragganmore for the Speyside scotch, Lagavullin for the Islay malts. Dalwhinnie for the Highland malts, Oban for West Highland malts, and Talisker from the Isle of Skye.
Not a fan of bourbon. Too sweet.

If you ever get a chance, try the 17yr old carribean cask. But my standard go to is the 12 yr double wood also.

I am absolutely a bourbon guy, and for that I reach for for Bakers 7 year any chance I can. But I had to second your vote for the Doublewood. Easily in my top 3 for Scotch. It's fantastic.

If you haven't tried Lagavulin 16, Caol Ila, or an older Bruichladdich, you really should. Might displace your top 3 ;-)

Got some Bulleit bourbon the other night. Not my favorite. Pretty potent, unsmooth IMO.

          Any Bulleit likers or haters?

Knob Creek. Havn't picked a favorite Scotch yet. Too many left to try!

You must try The Glenlivet Nadurra (see my post below)

Has anyone tried The Glenlivet Nadurra? My brother in law had us over last night and we sipped on this. I'm no Scotch expert by any means but this was phenomenal. I couldn't find anything wrong with it, and I tried.

My mom is the scotch drinker. I got her a bottle of that last year, I'm not sure if there is any left.

The Glenlivet has been my favorite scotch for many a year. I almost feel bad adding ice cubes and maybe a little water. If you let the flavor roll over your tongue the subtle flavors that come forth and pay attention can make your eyes roll back into your head.
This sounds like a upgrade and I am afraid to try it as it could be a new must have.

Sorry, can't and won't drink any hard liquor. It took my dad. Not to say I don't like my beer. Just saying I stay away from the hard stuff.

The Balvenie 14 yr Caribbean Cask is exquisite.
