For all the Scotch drinkers... I work at DFW airport and came across a passenger shipping this to his home in Japan. Click image for larger version

I wonder if it got there OK. Shipping in luggage?

It was shipped in a box as checked luggage. It was a 5 layer box and between each layer was 1" of styrofoam.

WalMart Great Value brand for a scotch/bourbon blend...$4 a half gallon.

It should be either scotch or bourbon. No one in their right mind mixes them. Probably still has grain floating in it.

I like too many whiskey's and bourbons, (not all whisky is bourbon, but all bourbon is whiskey ). That's like asking "who is your favorite child?" I love them both, but differently. Off the top of my head? Buffalo Trace, McKenna 10-year, Maker's 46, or Cask strength, Stagg Jr., (all of the releases), Elijah Craig & Evan Williams single barrel. I don't care for Scotch, but discovered that I enjoy Powers Gold Label Whiskey, on a trip to Ireland.

Scotch.....Blair Atholl 12 year old Single Malt is my personal favourite but recently tasted Tomatin 14yo , aged in old port casks, and thats now running a close second. Also recently tried an Indian Single Malt Paul John Edited , it scored 96,5 on the 2016 JIm Murray ratings outdoing all the big names. As its close to zero here I think im going to settle down and enjoy a dram or two.

While visiting family in California, I had to check the Scotch offerings at a Total Wine and More. Spotted an "Old Malt Cask" bottling of 19 YO Blair Athol. Fair leaped into my basket it did, along with a Bunnahabhain 18.

Enjoy !!!! Im just about to sit down and enjoy a dram or two of Ledaig 10yo......banish the icey night ahead.

Not much for Scotch but love my bourbon. Wild Turkey 101 is my go to but like Woodford Reserve, Four Roses especially the single barrel, Wild Turkey single barrel, and for my cranberry sauce recipe- Jack Daniels

I agree on the Four Roses. Even the small batch is good. Even though it isnt a rye, it does make an excellent Manhattan.

Of late I've really become a fan of Bulleit Bourbon. I'm no expert taster but it's smooth without a ton of burn. Not a fan of scotch since I snuck a big gulp out of my dads glass at a wedding when I was about 12. I'll never forget how vile I thought that stuff was...

I thought the opposite. I found Bulleit to be spicy and I didn't like it.

For anyone who likes Scotch whiskey (or who would like to try it for the first time) find a bottle of The Famous Grouse. It's a blended whiskey that is very smooth and goes down easily. Moreover, it's reputedly the most popular scotch in Scotland.

Agree with you, bchbum12 on the Famous Grouse. I was gifted a fifth for Christmas and am enjoying it VERY much!

        ALSO, Monkey Shoulder! Same story.

Famous grouse is good, they make a blend called the naked grouse and that my friend is special.

Know about Black Grouse but never heard of Naked. Will have to check into that. After all, Naked sounds interesting. Heh.

I'm not a scotch drinker (so explain to me why I have an excellent collection of scotches?). I brought back from Scotland this beauty. If I hadn't opened it, it would be worth over $200. I save it for special occasions. Abelour Antique.

Have not had the pleasure of their "Antique" but have naught but high praise for every other bottle of Aberlour I've ever had the pleasure of opening! Without a doubt my favorite brand of Scotch! The "Aberlour A'Bunadh" is especially good!

I always get my husband a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label for Xmas and one for his birthday. At Xmastime, I try to get the gift set. This year, the gift set was impossible for me to find. It was a beauty, though, with tumblers, tongs, and an ice bucket, all Porsche-designed.

Nice. I like getting gift sets also, and in PA they have to charge the same for the gift set as the single bottle.

One bourbon, one scotch and one beer.

Thanks! I heard a song with the same refrain on a Ry Cooder album that came out a few years back. Will have check if it's the same song!

I was never much of a scotch drinker. I thought they all tasted like bad versions of Listerine. Until a friend bought me a bottle of Balvenie 12 yr double wood. Opened up a whole new world for me. It is still my go to drink for scotch, but i recently came across their 14 yr Caribbean cask. Even my wife who hates scotch will drink this. I tried this recently. It has all that extra spice depth which is, to me anyway, atypical of most Scotch and more like bourbon.

All these replies and only a few people mentioned Laphroaig! I suppose it makes sense, it is an acquired taste - super peaty/Islay whisky. The quarter cask is so good and punches way above its price point (which is already high for me).

For bourbon, going from $ to $$$ would probably be Evan Williams, Buffalo Trace, Blanton's, and Rendevous Rye

Laphroaig is the single-malt of my misspent youth, and will always remain a favorite.
