I stumbled across this article today, pertains to this discussion.
    http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...n-indiana.html

I knew Whistlepig Rye was from a distillery in Canada, but was surprised to learn that a few of my other favorites are from the same massive distillery in Indiana, just bottled nicely and marked way up. There is a link within this link to labels and their bottlers with more info. I still like what I like, but this is heavy information, and at the very least points me to some inexpensive brands of Rye that have their same source as the higher end labels.

I drink cheaper stuff from time to time but I go to a lot of charity events where wine is the primary beverage so I drank half a hundred bottles to see what I liked. I quickly realized that for a good wine, which I could drink in a sitting, I was spending as much on that as on a good whiskey that would last a while, so now I drink beer, then bourbon, then whiskey, then scotch, and finally wine.
Bought my first Knob Creek straight bourbon the other night. I like it. Much more spicy than Maker's Mark (my fav being MM 46), but quite good. I've heard a few people including my bro-in-law recommend it and it comes well recommended. You can taste the love that goes into it. I like the shelf-worthy bottle too.

Single malt for me... In particular: Macallan's or Balvenie Doublewood. I often find it on sale for a good discount. The Mac's 18 is good...it used to be about half what it costs now so I settle for the 12 y.o.

Nothing original here. I enjoy a glass of your minimally aged 10 or 15 year Macallan when I can. I'd love to try the older ones.

For everyday use, I like Old Grand Dad 114. Smooth and the empty bottle makes a great coin container as quarters fit nicely. For special occasion, I enjoy Basil Hayden's from Jim Beam. A small batch bourbon that I don't get to enjoy as much as I would like.

Don't know if this thread is still open or not... I had some Bulleit 95 last night and WOW! What a great whiskey this is! It is 95% rye and about 90 proof (I think) it is awesome and surprisingly smooth, I highly recommend giving it a try!

SM, yes it is still open and it is good to hear from you about the Bulleit. If a thread is closed it will be locked and you cannot post to it so, awe you can figure it out.

Bushmills "Black Bush" whiskey for me - love the sherry cask/bourbon aging.

I'm always up for any of the Islay malts - just the usual run of the mill expressions, none of these high priced specials that have spent far too long in oak (anything over 12 years and I feel your losing the nature of the spirit and getting far too much wood influence)
For blending you can't beat johnnie walker red label and as for American - rittenhouse 100 proof is the one I'll keep going back to.
Also, I'm rather partial to the raw spirit straight from the still - it certainly puts hairs on your chest!!

YUP... the Black Bush is on my 'To Try' List! It sounds like a good one.

For bourbon: I'm a big fan of Bulleit. Nice smooth flavor.
                            Whiskey: Auchentoshan. Seriously good stuff.

Me too, Henrik... although not a bourbon, my fave right now is Bulleit 95 Rye Whiskey... never had anything like it before. I highly recommend.
