    I feel your pain.
Many years ago I had a butchered Russian boar, that I killed, in my chest freezer. Due to my wife having surgery and a few days stay in the hospital I hadn't been down to my freezer on my every other day excursion.
Brought my wife home and went down to the freezer to get some meat to thaw for the next days grilling. Lifted the door and I heard water run down from the door and it looked like soup inside the freezer. Needless to say I lost the whole hog (minus the 3 packages of pork chops I grilled before the surgery) and other meats.

I live in fear of the freezer going on the blink. What a sad story.

Having had a similar loss, I have a freezer alarm on the chest freezer in my garage now. Thankfully I go through the garage multiple times every day, and would hear the beeping. Had a tripped breaker and the alarm went off when it got above 0F once - normal temp is around -25F.

You're a good man for taking it in stride. Karma will be good to you in other ways.

I feel sorry for you and your wife both, mostly because you're probably still kicking yourselves over dropping the ball one way or the other over the whole scenario. At least you can console one another, and chalk it up to experience.

$250 is quite a hit in the ole wallet. Hope the next one arrives safely all the way to your table. Drink wine, enjoy it, and forget about the first one.

I'm sorry to hear that Huskee! I will honorarily give you a "Thumbs Down" because you cannot "like" a post where something terrible happens.

I had a chest freezer on the fritz (over the summer) a few years ago and lost quite a few packages of ribs and a couple of rib roasts. The smell was worse than thinking about the cost of all the meat wasted! 🤮 Glad it was in a detached garage.

A dead chest freezer in August was one of the worst things I’ve ever personally smelled or had to clean up…

My hunting buddy and I once lost a whole cow. Helping on a family round up, November, pasture about 1 1/2 sections. Six riders, but of course we got the friendly blame. No one realized a cow was missing until spring, when she was discovered, with a new calf. Had survived all winter in a pasture with no running water, no ponds, windmills shut off and tanks drained, no extra feed, no cover. Dew and snow were the only water sources.

It was the blizzard of 1887 which caused ranchers to start putting up hay for the winter, and which fundamentally changed ranching from open range to more closely managed herds. Gotta get cattle to market and to you so you can throw beef away!

Ohmigosh, what a tale. I love survival stories, because they make me want to cheer for the indomitability of creatures. It puts me in mind of a small feel-good sort of novel about a cow and her calf and a woman and her child facing hard times on a farm. If you're a reader of novels, you may enjoy it. One Good Mama Bone by Bren McClain.

Wow Huskee I can’t bring myself to like that post. We need a sad/dislike button! I feel your pain and can see something like that happening so easily. I think it means you need another fridge at your place so this doesn’t ever happen again…

Yeah, I've gotta research if there's anything I can do to rejuvenate my old fridge first, if I can't then when my garage is built I will get a new one for it.

The only good part of this story is that you were kind to your wife in the face of an extremely frustrating and expensive loss. Good on you for that my man.

Huskee - I experienced the opposite with a high school sweetheart. She lost a necklace I bought for her birthday, during band practice. I consoled her and told her to not worry about it. TWO WEEKS later another girl tells me that the sweetheart felt I didn't really care about the necklace, or her. hahaha!

Dang Huskee, sorry to hear this……And yeah, I’d go ahead and replace that garage fridge ASAP. I can’t live without mine. I even have a special sable fur lined storage area inside just for my Coors Light!……
