Good folks of The Pit, we are currently up to 17 booked members and 4 spouses. Please check back here at the OP to make sure I have you listed with your +1 status properly included.
The winter doldrums may have set in across the country but we have one helluva Meat-Up coming up in May. This should give us courage to face, nay, even thumb our noses at, Ol’ Man Winter during the coming months in hopeful anticipation of meeting many of our fellow Pit members in Winston-Salem after the spring thaw.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

With the major holidays and their attendant frivolities and headaches behind us, it’s time to turn our attention again to the Spring 2023 NC Pitmaster Club Meat-Up. It’s quickly evolving into an event you will not want to miss! Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I make some important announcements.
Confirmed attendees, fence-sitters, and lost AR souls seeking face-to-face redemption with your peers, your illustrious planning committee has some events for you to put on your calendars.
First, don’t miss the Friday evening Happy Hour, which will take place at the Hampton Inn between 4:00 and 5:30 pm. NOTE: This is a time change from the original happy hour post so don't get caught with your koozies down. This will be a BYOB event to allow us to get to know one another before the serious shenanigans begin. Bring your coolers, pints, tall-boys, fifths, Burgundies and near-beers to the Hampton Inn outdoor seating area to regale the group with your tallest tales, strangest truths and half-truths. This is a rain or shine event so if the weather is uncooperative, let’s all meet in Panhead John ‘s room!
Afterwards, when we have wandered involuntarily back into sobriety’s cold clutches, it will be time to freshen up then take a casual 5 minute walk over to the Village Tavern for dinner. It is a scratch kitchen with an eclectic menu and very respectable wine/beer/cocktail list. (Insider hint: If Guillermo is working the grill that night, I highly recommend a steak!) You can peruse the menu and amenities for the Village Tavern here.
There are reservation slots available for 24 attendees from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, so it is imperative that you sign up for this dinner asap; it is on a first come-first served basis.
Tuesday, May 1 is the last day to sign up for this dinner.
Please post a reply to this comment below indicating you are in.
Even if you’re not among the first 24 people to sign up, you can still make reservations there under your own name if you desire. You can use the Resy website or call the restaurant directly at (336) 760-8686. Conversely, if you want to strike out on your own, check out local restaurants on TripAdvisor here.
Your planning committee is also looking at dining options for Saturday lunch and dinner for the group. These will be posted later so please, check back here often for updates.
Your planning committee is James Dendy (clawbear57), David Norcross (ditto), John V. (Panhead John) and yours truly, Wayne Turner (WayneT). No names were changed to protect the innocent because we are all guilty as charged.

I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins, steak and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds.
My outdoor kitchen has a Lone Star Grillz Adjustable and it is wonderful. There also is a Pit Boss 5 Burner Ultimate Griddle and a Pit Boss Copperhead pellet grill.
There is an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I’m working on this. We’ll see. We have a wedding to attend the first week in June, and Mrs wants to go to Vegas the week after that. So if I go, she will probably not come along, which is a shame because she’s the one who makes me likable.
