Be careful driving across the US Panhead John. Some states have laws against driving barefoot... and there OUGHT to be laws against not trimming your toenails as well...

You must have missed something up there, that’s Sid P, not me….🥸

T-15 days until the first ever NC Pitmaster Club Meat-Up, where lasting friendships will be forged around the common theme of outdoor cooking in the relentless pursuit of epicurean ecstasy. During the winter, it seemed as if this time would never get here fast enough, but now it is nearly upon us and travel plans are in place.

CaptainMike , if I remember correctly, you and the entire crew are headed out tomorrow in the new truck pulling the fifth wheel across two continental divides. Remember to downshift, watch for those runaway truck ramps, check your brakes often and be safe out there my friend.

Great Mike! Start your post tonight if you can, including the pics you were gonna show here of you hooking up and ready to head out. I was gonna start a new post the Tuesday before the MeatUp for everyone else to post their traveling pics to the MeatUp. Since you’re leaving earlier than us, the rest of us can post all our traveling pics together in a separate post. Then on Thursday morning, Wayne is gonna start a new post just for The MeatUp.

Enjoy that drive! I’ve driven cross country four times and loved it. You always see something new and exciting. I hope to never drive I-40 cross country again, though. I’ve done it three times and that’s enough.

WayneT I40 is a big chunk of the first leg, but for us it's just eating up miles and I'm good with that.

If anyone is interested in attending the NC Pickle Festival, come a week early. It’s in Mount Olive, a 3 hour drive from Winston-Salem. I’m supporting the local economy so, Mt. Olive pickles are all I keep in my fridge. Plus, my dad was a USDA produce inspector for a while in Mt. Olive.

The only pickles in our house too. I found them when I lived in Charlotte some years ago. Yum.

A little bit of my family history. The Mt. Olive plant was built on a relative’s farm, and my dad’s first off the farm job was working at the plant in the 1930’s

I had some MO pickles on my sandwich today! A very good product.

How ironic is this WayneT ? I was going to the store anyway and you reminded me I needed pickles…

    Next curious question...

Who is bringing stuff to cook on / with???

It looks like ItsAllGoneToTheDogs is bringing a griddle and / or a PKGO...

I can bring a GMG Trek if we might be doing some parking lot cooking...

We’re getting close, and I have an offer for the group.

A store down the road from me sells Max Good’s Black Swan barbecue sauces for $3.89/bottle. If you’ve wanted to try them but were turned off by the shipping costs, now’s your chance. Last fall Amazon was selling them 3/$25, and today it isn’t even listed. It’s best to let me know soon, as they’re sometimes sold out.

Jim White do you need more?

As someone with 4 Meat Ups under his belt….. Here’s what happens at a MeatUp. You will honestly not have much time for cooking anything, even snacks such as hot dogs for breakfast. Think about this, when do you buy the food, who’s gonna chip in and pay for it, do you bring stuff with you, or buy it there, how do you know who wants what? Buns for the burgers, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles? When we all get up in the mornings and meet on the patio for coffee, 8-9 am, we’re all socializing and discussing what we’re gonna do for lunch in just a few hours. Who wants to eat shortly before going to the restaurant? Well, not me anyway. Then let’s say we’ve had lunch and are back at the hotel shortly afterwards…are you really thinking about eating again before dinner? Maybe I’m wrong, and it wouldn’t be the first time speaking from experience, I’ll never bother with the hassle of cooking on a MeatUp again……

We did a Virginia Meat Up in 2019 at a State Park...four of us camped and cooked for three days...we all brought grills, smokers, etc. and prepared some of our best dishes...Going somewhere like a campground is likely the better way to do a cooking meat-up...

We held the Meat-up starting tomorrow 4/26/19...It came up in my FB memories today...

I'm confirmed to be leaving at noon so should be there before 1500

I’m gonna be leaving Tuesday morning and arriving sometime Thursday. Wayne and I thought it’d be a good idea to start a separate NC Travel Post, where everyone can post pics of their journey to Winston-Salem. Even if you’re flying in, some pics from 30,000 feet would be cool! Even better, if there’s some air rage going on with fights on the plane, that’d make for great pics too! Use your imagination for some interesting or entertaining photos. Food/restaurant pics, scenery shots or whatever…we’re easily entertained here. I’ll start the NC Travel Post early Tuesday morning before I leave.

The first day of the MeatUp, Thursday morning WayneT is going to start the official North Carolina MeatUp page. This will be a brand new thread where everyone can post your own pics and editorial once you arrive in Winston-Salem…..This will be much better than continuing with this 87 page thread…😳 I’ll probably start the Travel Post with a picture of me brushing my teeth before I leave.

Just an FYI here but, if anyone going to the MeatUp is in the market, I’m selling my iPhone 8 Plus…it’s in excellent condition and has some extras to go with it…PM me and I can send pics and more info. I can bring it with me to the MeatUp next Thursday if anyone’s interested.

I remember Bush’s version of that song very well. The steel guitar solo in it was something I never mastered but it ain’t because I didn’t try.

Sorry Wayne. Not my thing. On these road trips, it’s The Beatles. I have the entire catalog loaded in my IPod and listen to the entirety, in order, beginning as I roll out of the driveway. When completed, I start over and do it again. Just my thing I guess. 🤷‍♂️😊

Jfrosty27 I hear ya and no apologies needed. I’m all over the map when it comes to (traveling) music. When we did our XC trip, I had six 4 hour long playlists comprised of country to classical and everything in between.

I actually put together a playlist just for our 1st MeatUp in Rockdale. Yeah, I got too much time on my hands, I know. Some of it……..

Huh. I might take 20 minutes and make a Spotify of this. I can listen to it while driving, I got a 8 hour trek. Plus I could use it while doing my (bullshit) workouts.

Not a tune on that list I wouldn’t want to hear. Nice.

Thanks guys! Mosca Here’s the rest of it if you’re interested, not a stinker in the bunch, promise…if I remember right, I think I spent about 2 hours putting this together from my iTunes library. The Etta James and Fabulous Thunderbirds songs, essential IMO.

I guess. It's really good driving music.

One of my wife's colleagues in the Chemistry department had a rockabilly band about 15 to 20 years ago. At a dinner at his house last week, I mentioned that listening to Southern Culture on the Skids reminded me of his band. He said, "Yeah, we opened for them a couple of times". Interestingly, his band was named Doublewide and so I wonder which came first, the album of that name or Chuck's band.
