I know we are trying to make this a cozy event where everyone can be in the same hotel but, if you're a hard core camper and want to schlep your RV cross-country, there are local accommodations for that too. This place is about 10 minutes from the Hampton.

Thanks Wayne. I will be that schlepper you speak of, but will probably stay at the hotel. There's also a pretty good chance that Collette will be with us for a day before she flies home.

Backyard Jambo, T1000 Woodmaster, MAK 2 star, 14" & 22" WSM, 2x 22" Weber Kettle, Stoven, Hot Box Grill, Hasty Bake Ranger, RecTeq Bullseye, GMG Davy Crockett; Original Grilla and others I'm not remembering!
Just adding to the Moravian theme...this is a Moravian Star light fixture which was just installed in my foyer. Winston-Salem is a major location for the Moravian Church. As a graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, this is like posting a red razorback for a University of Arkansas grad! I really hope I can make this meat-up!

So, I just asked the GF is she wants to go to NC in May, and she is already making plans with her family that lives down the road near Hickory. Sounds like we are coming.

I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins, steak and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds.
My outdoor kitchen has a Lone Star Grillz Adjustable and it is wonderful. There also is a Pit Boss 5 Burner Ultimate Griddle and a Pit Boss Copperhead pellet grill.
There is an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.

I will likely reserve a room sometime this weekend. For now, it's unlikely my wife will be able to join us, as that will likely be the weekend for UF graduation and so she will have to work a commencement ceremony or two. I think she has several students graduating. I have plenty of miles for a free flight, so I'll only be out the expense of the room and a car. That leaves a good budget for lots of barbecue!

WayneT when do you expect the festivities to kick off and end on the 5th and the 7th? Trying to decide if I want to come a day early and leave a day late.

Festivities? You mean gorging ourselves with BBQ and beer? As soon as the first person arrives. 😉
Seriously, this first ever NC Meat-Up will be rather laid back and spontaneous vis a vis activities. I’ll be posting different places that people or groups of people can visit. I’d also encourage attendees to follow some of the links I post to get an idea of stuff to see and do.

Taildraggertim I'm in Lewisville. We'll have to get together some time. Are you a pilot? When I see 'tail dragger' I immediately think of the iconic DC3.
-
WayneT There's a bunch of good folks in Lewisville. I was a mechanic/pilot some time ago. I took care of general aviation aircraft for private owners. The old general aviation (Piper Cubs, Taylorcrafts, etc.) were and still are my favorites.

WayneT we've got an old DC3 retrofitted out here like the D-Day planes and a team that does WWII-style jump school and trains civvies to do what the boys back in the day did. Very cool stuff!

So what exactly goes on during a meat-up? I mean aside from arguing with people that BBQ is pork and the rest is smoked meat...

Well, I may run up there one of the days that this is going as I live in Charlotte. But I'll probably just run away and wonder why I came as I have difficulties with groups of strangers. And people that spend a lot of time smoking are pretty strange, so I really should feel at home, but I won't. So maybe.

Here's an activity for you. Sounds like a fun place! A new bar called "The Wrong Number".

They did a special on Mt Airy but also I just love this series the local news does, it usually has an Andy Griffith type vibe and also highlights some really cool places to visit that you would have overlooked. https://www.youtube.com/@WRAL5/searc...eel%20traveler
