Please check back at the OP here to make sure your name is in the correct list. The cut/paste function has been acting weird for me lately.
A big thanks and tip o' the hat to Sid P for posting an introductory video on this topic indicating he was attending. C'mon, anyone else have the intestinal fortitude to post a vid?
I spoke at length with Linda and really tried to work out the details of trying to attend the big meeting.
To make it reasonable and just plain missing one session of dialysis we would have to fly. Which raises some major concerns we had.
In no particular order:
We would have a whole suitcase devoted to meds because you have to bring the meds in the bottles. That would cause major delays attempting to negotiate airport security.
Linda would be unable to carry firearms. I'm no longer allowed.
We would have to leave the dogs with someone Linda trusts with them. If such a person exists...
Flying or driving with the hotel, food, etc... Would be a major investment. She really didn't have a major problem with that. In fact, she likes the idea as long as other wives are going.
So now it's almost set in stone...
I tried!

Reason: The usual spell\grammar check feldercarb
We will be planning like it's going to happen for the next month or two and see what happens.
No matter which mode of transportation we use, it's going to be a major endeavor.
I take marijuana for severe PTSD. I forgot to mention that would also be an issue. Also one of the reason no license to carry, driver's and pilot's licenses. I just consider it a medication as it's legal here. I even have a Massachusetts Medical Marijuana picture ID card.
It seems everything we do is health related...

Reason: I cant tell you how many times I reread & edit these posts.
For the Neapolitan pizza lovers, Cugino Forno in Winston is your spot. This place is incredible. About 80% of their ingredients are shipped in direct from Italy. Their buffalo mozzarella is even flown in fresh.
The wood fired pizza oven is something of beauty, imported from Naples. The pizzas are fired right in front of the customers. Here is a link to their website. https://cuginoforno.com/pages/our-story
Incendiary Brewing Company is 5 footsteps next door. It's a great spot to enjoy your pizza and a few pints. Link to the brewery is here https://www.incendiarybrewing.com/
Sid P I see. There are actually two of them, one downtown that Hulagn1971 spoke of and one in Clemmons, nearer to the Hampton. Incendiary also has another location near Clemmons with a great outdoor seating area; and you can bring outside food there.
So that's all it took to convince you, a post about Krispy Kreme doughnuts? ;-) Come on down! I'll put you on the tentative list and just watch for your post about booking a room. It will happen, you know.

Well, Collette has decided to join me for (almost) the whole trip, including all of the NC Meatup. With that I'm now going to be dragging the 5th wheel all the way across the continent and back cuz Baby needs her space. So about mid-April y'all might want to buy some oil futures because diesel consumption is going way up in May!
Haven't decided yet if it's going to work for us ... but if it does ... and SWMBO decides to come along ... I HOPE I'm smart enough not to refer to her as "dragging the 5th wheel". Geez, Cap'n ...
Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.
Current cookers Weber Spirit 3 burner with a full insert griddle added. A 22" Kettle with vortex, SnS and a Smokey Joe. The most recent addition is a Pit Barrel Jr with bird hanger, 4 hooks and cover. ThermoWorks Smoke 2 probe, DOT, 2 ThermoPops and a Thermapen MK4. A Thermoworks RFX Gateway 2 probe meat thermometer.
I haven't said much because I don't know much to date. I need to get through the next few weeks. The other thing I've been torn to is the World Championship BBQ in Memphis May 17th through 20th. Something I've always wanted to experience. I have to believe Meathead will be there?
I'll talk to my wife and see if ether is realistic from her view. Not something she would be interested in. That doesn't eliminate me from participating. I just can't do both. I'll get back to y'all most likely right after the New Year.

Thanks for the info CandySueQ et al, I was going to alter my plans to attend which would have cut in to my time visiting some Civil War sites that are definitely on my bucket list.

I hate to be a wet blanket on these things...but the most exciting and public friendly BBQ event is the Texas Livestock and Rodeo in Houston in February. That one is a secret that's held tightly to by Texans. The Jack used to be a major BBQ event that was public friendly. While I didn't make it to this year's Jack, last year there wasn't much for the public to do.
Covid has had a terrible effect on public gatherings.
Itβs actually called the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. And it definitely is crowd friendly, Iβve been to several of them. Thereβs tons of vendors selling all kinds of fried food and delicious carnival fare, in addition to BBQ which can be bought. It started out in 1931 as The Houston Fat Stock Show. Thereβs also concerts you can attend most nights. Elvis Presley actually played several nights there in the 70βs.
Currently, we are up to 15 members and at least 3 spouses attending. Be sure and check back at the OP here to ensure your name is in the appropriate column.

I was really hoping that I could make the next Meat-up, so I could finally meet some you in person. Unfortunately, we are booked on an Alaskan cruise during this meat-up, so it will have to wait until the next one.
For folks who are driving into NC from the west, hereβs a place you may want to consider visiting if you have an extra day to spend in the area. Itβs about 2 hours from Winston-Salem and in late April/early May, the gardens should be in all their splendor.
My planned route is up thru Nashville, wander thru the Smokies, end up at the Meat Up on Thursday afternoon, CaptainMike! I'll then go to Biltmore and head back the southern route, thru Atlanta down to Birmingham. It's going to be a fun road trip!
