Here is a Google Map I have created for BBQ Joints. It is not all inclusive, I add new places as I learn about them and have time to update the map...

Blue is places I know about, Maroon is where I have been (not the best at updating that) and Green is places I really want to try.

I figured this might help anyone looking for Que as they travel to the Meat-Up...

I am always looking for recommendations of places to add...

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions...

ETA - there are some no BBQ related stops in the Keys layer as I plan my trip to Key West in two weeks.

If anyone is coming through Charlotte, go to Noble Smoke. It’s just off the highway and excellent!

I have been to Pigman's in the OBX and was not impressed. High Cotton is good, but not great. I have probably been to all the Q joints there in the last almost 40 years, but I only remember those two. Not Q, but try Art's on the beach rd for a really good burger. Try breakfast too, but get there early 'cause the line is long and they stop taking names so they can start lunch on time.

BKYDBBQ You might to add in Wilber's BBQ in Goldsboro, NC, my old haunt. It certainly isn't as good as it used to be but it's respectable and as good or better than some of the others on your map. It is certainly a legendary place so might warrant a visit for that reason alone.

Hopefully i will see pic's and/or videos from this event.. WayneT

I hope there's more room in the drunk tank, pretty sure I paid for my reservation already

WayneT What night is “Badmouth The Moderators” night? Did we say Friday or Saturday?

It’s open season on mods so there are no time restrictions or bag limits. I think the only requirement is to have a few drinks under your belt first so you’ll have an excuse for your behavior.

Lifetime bans do not apply during the meat-up!

I found a picture from last Fall’s Texas MeatUp. The Blanco police frequently post pics online from inside their drunk tank. Pretty sure that’s me and RonB on the floor.

I’ll notify our photographer to take only black and white photos, to be consistent with the TX gang.

I’m visiting my daughter in Durham after the Meat-Up, and Angus Steak Barn and Grill Billies are definitely on my list. Are there any other places I need to hit?

Angus Barn is best of the best for carnivores. If you like fine wine, they can also punch that ticket for you. Don’t expect stellar presentation there, just perfectly prepared food. There’s also a walk-in humidor if you’re into cigars. The Wild Turkey lounge is a great place to hang if your table isn’t ready when you arrive.

    Housekeeping note:

This is going to be a first rate event so, with 24 people attending, the planning committee thinks it is both convenient and prudent to have name tags for everyone. Speaking for myself, I'm not even going to address the underlying age/memory issue of remembering 22 other names. If I can't remember my wife's name then I'm beyond hope.

If Panhead John has not already reached out to you to gather info for your name tags, please PM him or me your, and your spouses, if applicable, preferred name and your home state, as you want it to appear on the name tag.

    Thanks!

Bumping this post for a final reminder that today, April 5, is the last day to book a room at the Hampton Inn at the preferred rate of $119. Go to the OP here to reserve a room using instructions at the top of the page. After today, you will have to negotiate your own rate directly with the hotel.

As much as I hate to -- I have to back out. Business matter keeps me at work on 5/5. I'm cancelling my room right after I post this.

Unacceptable. Collette and I booked the Tanglewood space right next to you, now we don't know who we're going to hang out and smoke cigars with.

WayneT what time is your reservation? Looks like I missed the cutoff, but I book something there around the same time. Let me know if you have a couple of spots open up

Anyone interested in doing a homemade bacon exchange at the meetup?

Edit: my bacon IS cured, of course, but I'd be happy to write the word "uncured" on the packaging for anyone if it makes you feel better. It'd be as exactly as truthful as the "uncured" bacon they sell at the store.

Now that is hard-core. Would a pork exchange violate any Chicago Board of Trade rules? I'll cook and eat any leftovers to destroy evidence! ;-)

T - 23 days until the Meat-Up. All systems are nominal, as my rocket scientist friend, DaveD would say.

I start out a week from Friday. I got the 5th wheel dug out of the snow and unwrapped, went through all of the systems and she wintered well. Going to give her a nice bath tomorrow, then get her outfitted for 5 weeks of travel.

Getting a pedi for the Meat Up! Can’t have scraggly toenails! (how’s this for a stupid post?) 😂

Not stupid at all. I honestly had a pedi last week. I’m just getting too damn lazy and inflexible to do my own toenails anymore. And there’s a lot to be said for pampering yourself Y’all say the word and I’ll arrange a group pedicure at my favorite salon during the Meat-Up. That would be post-worthy.
