You're a disgrace to all the truly untalented welders/fabricators out there.

Trust me, a Miter Saw can make anyone almost talented.

Action pics, weld then grind. I'm pretty much caught up until the weekend when further steel should arrive so I can work on the floor.

I have a burner sliding under the smoker so I added 2 extra braces to prevent any sagging of the bottom, bottom floor. Only one was really needed, but the hidden unsymmetry would have drove me nuts.

Wow this is like looking back to the days I built what I needed. You’re doing great. I couple of tips, get to know a local welding shop, they will sometimes let you look through their scrap bin. Most of the time they will either give you the scrap you want or sell it to you for junk price. You can save a fortune that way. The other is get to know where the local uniform companies sell their used uniforms. The local Goodwill store has quite a bit of FRC used uniform shirts and coveralls for dirt cheap.

Yeah, I'm about to contact a local contractor about sheet metal. I have a couple good button up welding shirts on the way.

Well, I thought I had a Dewalt drill, turns out I HAD one back at the other house. My cheapey wolly world just about burnt up, but I got just enough to finish with my hand grinder. ACE is closed. Monday or Tuesday I can get a good one.

I keep an old Craftsman corded drill around for the odd big job. It’s a beast but comes in handy when you need extra oomph.

Jerod Broussard tell me about your welding setup. What machine are you using, etc.,?

I've been doing a boatload of research over the last month or two, have probably watched a hundred or more hours of videos on welders (Amazon brands for the most part) and welding tips, tricks tutorials and techniques. Initially we thought we were going to be using a borrowed Lincoln AC225 stick welder we got from a friend. Before we got around to getting started on the cutting and welding stuff, he had to have it back because he had a broken faucet he needed to mend after this winter storm.

My buddy has a MIG welder that was given to him a couple of years ago from another friend who passed away a year ago from the virus. He dug it out this last week and found out it is a Millermatic 130 XP - a decent old machine, but it seems to be having some trouble with feeding and the more research we've done, it seems like this is primarily a low duty cycle (20%) machine meant for light gauge work, like light sheet metal, MAYBE up to 1/8". Not going to work for our purposes, we're going to be working with a little bit of 1/4", lots of 5/16" and 3/8".

So, my buddy ordered this one yesterday:

The Yeswelder 250 PRO. Yeswelder is a Chinesium brand, but the last couple of years has come on the scene and seems to be putting out pretty quality equipment. Of course, customer service is always the biggest tossup once you've evaluated the quality question.

The Yeswelder 250 Pro is a 220V machine that will do stick/arc, flux core gasless MIG, gas MIG and lift TIG. Also capable of running a spool gun to weld aluminum via MIG. It's a heck of a machine, from the research I have done, for $400. I'm shocked at the inroads made with inverter welders in the last few years, and the pricepoint. Value for dollar, I think this is going to be one heck of a machine, though we'll have to put some hours on it and see how it goes. I've yet to pick up a stinger or torch, but I've watched enough tutorials to at least feel like I know some basics going in - but you know how it goes - no battle plan survives initial contact with the enemy! lol

Anyways, I'm encouraged by your work, you certainly are doing a bang up methodical job, and that's going to be a beast of a cooker when you're done with it!

I have this one, it only does flux core. Once you are at 10 gauge they recommend multiple passes, on up to 5/16". 1/8"/11gauge does real nice. I only have 120V here so the 140 Lincoln is the biggest I could use. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lincoln-...13-1/100670933

I just purchased a used Lincoln 140hd weld pack. Getting into longer runs I need more electrical help. I saved about $400. This one can also do gas-shield.

Caster prep. Corners rounded off, holes outlined, pilot holes drilled. Need a "bit" larger drill bit to finish off.

So I had to call an audible on the floor. I was gonna put my air vents through the floor, but I decided against that since got enough going on down there. It'll be less hassle installing them on the sides. Both sides of the floor are welded. Next weekend I can start on my legs and the burner assembly and associated parts.

Smorgasbord of items who hopefully find their place in a few days. Need a couple more deliveries and a drill to get most of them where they need to be. They include: 3" plate hidden amongst the 1.25" square tubing in that box, 2-16" pans (to hold water and catch the drippings off the deflector) that may be cut down to 2" (currently 4" deep), Lodge heat treated wood chunk pot, burner sitting on top the 5" plate it will attach to, 4" chimney, and 1/2" angle iron to slide the burner under the smoker.

Took welding one year, all I remember is sneaking up behind a guy and cranking up the amps so he blows a hole in the metal.
