Vertical Smoker Build COMPLETED!!...and welding cart 3.095674

Got the base partially welded together. It's currently being held down with 8 clamps until I can get my 4, inside corner braces welded, and two other "cross braces." Both outside corners are at 34.75" so that's a win.

    Plans being played out:
    Double walled with 1.5" insulation
    1.25" 11 Gauge Square Tubing
Legs are 2" 11 Gauge Square Tubing as recommended by Henrik
Sheet metal for floor, walls, roof, 1/8"
    Gas powered
    8" Casters
Thinking 4" chimney on a partially sloped roof
I have 4 sections of 64" of square tubing coming in for the corner uprights.

Caster plates. I used the Miter to establish a line so an untalented individual could at least go somewhat straight with a hand grinder.

I put a little bevel so that I wouldn't be grinding off the whole weld on the corner top and bottom.

The plastic base the blade goes through needed replacing. Three 1/8" layers and a little grinding got it replaced. Fresh pics tomorrow.

Crap no!!! I'm just getting started and learning, emphasis on learning. My welding is good, but the whole fabrication thing, as you know, is a different animal. I like it. But just like smoking meat, once I'm out of the smoke, I don't need that smell anymore.

            Shields up! Maintain red alert...
            Phasers lock on target... FIRE!

Direct hit in two locations... Minimum damage to fireproof material.

Apparrently your supposed toWear 100% cotton when welding.
My son was working at Stelco in Nanicoke, he was told never to wear anything polyester, if you get severely burned they can pull cotton off your skin while polyester being plastic melts into your skin and is extremely painful to remove.

smokin fool as a kid I was leaning against the stove while my mom was cooking, and my 1970’s polyester shirt sleeve caught fire! You are 100% correct that it melts into your skin - I still have a scar from it! My poor mom just put it out with her bare hands I think! Maybe she had a dish towel.

False modesty? You’ve got some mad skills in metal fabrication. I can’t wait to see the final result.

Great project and nice work. Bringing back memories of welding and fab for work. Don't miss having to show up every day and being under pressure to get finished but I do miss the hands on work.

Well, once you release the clamps you notice the imperfections. I didn't fully weld the corners but probably should have attached these braces before running any beads.
