Wolf Hall (and the other two books in Hilary Mantel's trilogy on Thomas Cromwell) are all fascinating reads.

I stumbled upon this web site today: https://www.dustjackets.com/

They make facsimile book jackets for books published before 1976. Very small operation based out of San Fransisco, but a cool idea.

Growing up I learned all about King Arthur and the knights of the round table and loved the fable. In fact, my two current corgis are each named after knights of the round tale, Tristan and Cai.
Then years ago I stumbled across Bernard Cornwell’s take of King Arthur and his adventures in the series “The Warlord Chronicles,” and that telling of the story definitely seemed more realistic and plausible than the fable. To me this was the definitive series exploring the life of Arthur.

However a new series written by Peter Gibbons entitled “The Chronicles of Arthur” has far surpassed even Bernard’s tale, and I say this with a heavy heart since I have loved all things written by Cornwell for decades.
So if you are interested in Arthur and his rise to Arthur Pendragon I recommend:this series starting with this novel

which can be read for free if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription.

I wasn’t in the mood for an Arthur book so I grabbed his first in the Viking Blood and Blade saga. Just finished it. Pretty good. I think I like The Last Kingdom books more but this was solid action from cover to cover.

JCBBQ In total agreement with you on Gibbons’ Viking series. Good but no comparison with Bernard’s Saxon tales. His Arthur however I have really enjoyed. And, no matter what anyone ever writes they will never create and develop a character as well as Cornwell did with Uthred.

Very good book on preparing for retirement. Highly recommended.

Romans is not for the faint of heart.

It’s pretty good. A lot of these types of books discuss physics as something external, but Wilczek addresses the dual nature of reality, the tug of war between the world we perceive and the one we continually generate.

My oldest brother asked me to order this for him.
Evidently he was going thru some Williamsburg mags my mom used to get.
This puts you right at the start of the civil war. Told by a youngster from Hampton Va, actually City Point on the James River. Love this kind of read. Click image for larger version

I need to read this. City Point on the James River is actually in what is now named Hopewell VA, further up the river from Hampton. The pier there was the site during the Civil War where the Yankees and rebels exchanged prisoners of war throughout the war.
Only know all this because my direct ancestor survived the 1622 Indian Massacre when he was living Bermuda Hundred just across the Appomattox river when City Point was named "Bermuda Cittie.” It later became known as Charles City Point.

Yes, Donw you are spot on. This is written from at least five journals with personal remembrances and stories heard from family members. GRW's family grew up in Hampton, a pop of appx1200 in 1860. Prominent among them were at least two dozen harbor pilots, incl Geo's father as had both of his grandfathers.
          Amazon for just at $15.

I'm listening to the Audible version of this and I'm enjoying it. B

Yeah, Cobb was really slandered in the early 60's I think by some cornball writer who just wanted to sell books and it stuck. Not that he was a saint, but he wasn't near as horrible as some make him out to be including the racist thing.

I just got done reading The Stand by Stephen King for the 3rd time and I felt like continuing the theme of the end of the world.

Swan Song is a great one. Dark, terrifying and a little too close to what we might be facing soon. An excellent read so far.

              Just finished....wow.

My wife and I share a Kindle library but our reading preferences are quite different. However we both appreciate good writing no matter the genre so we have created two Kindle folders where we each add books we enjoyed to the other’s reading list folder. I’m ashamed that it took me two years before I finally got around to reading “Lessons in Chemistry” that Kathy placed in my reading list folder. Kathy, knowing my disdain for modern ‘Best Sellers’ snuck this one in somehow hiding the fact that not only was this one, but that a TV series based on it was aired a year or so ago. This book will be a gift to all my granddaughters when they reach the proper age. (And my grandsons too.) There are a lot of lessons within I hope they learn.
