Man, I've been devouring a number of long series lately.

I read all of the following in the last 6 or 8 months or so:

Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman (7 books - 8th just dropped 2 weeks ago)
The Powder Mage series by Brian McClellan (3 books)
Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb (15 books)
Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson (7 books)
Old Man's War series by John Scalzi (5 books, though I see there are a couple more now I haven't read)
Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson (19 books)
Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor (5 books)
Cradle series by Will Wight (13 books)
Safehold series by David Weber (10 books)
The Firebird Chronicles by T.A. White - (6 books)
Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons (4 books)
Undying Mercenaries series by B.V. Larson (25 books)
Arcane Ascension series by Andrew Rowe (6 books)
Starship's Mage series by Glynn Stewart (18 books, 19th pending)
Red Rising saga by Pierce Brown (6 books, 7th pending)
Foreigner series by C.J. Cherryh (22 books)

I dunno, this is most of what I can remember over the last year-plus. Mostly space operas, magic and wizardry and fantasy.

I have read All the Colors of the Dark, JCBBQ . I gave it 5 out of 5 stars in Goodreads, and noted it as one of the best books of 2025 for me.

I figured you’d like it. It’s got hold of my heart. I’m scared of what’s gonna happen to these characters that I already love so much. Man, it’s so well written.

It was quite the exciting ride, JCBBQ . That guy can write, for sure.

This book is outstanding and I highly recommend it, especially to those of you near the Great Lakes.

If you really want to know what it was like to be a cowboy in some of the worst country in Texas from the 1860s into the early 20th century then this is the book for you. He relates the life and times of a man named John Young who is born in Texas in 1856 and was a cowboy and rancher for all of his life, finally settling an Alpine Texas. At one point he was sent to spy on Billy the Kid's gang. He had a very unflattering of opinion of Billy and was a bit miffed that Billy the Kid has been made out to be a folk hero.

New stash came in via Kickstarter today. Absolutely beautiful books, each signed by the author Joe Abercrombie.

Even though Indiana touches Lake Michigan, the Central Indiana area doesn't identify a lot with the Great Lakes. But the part I found fascinating is how connected Central Indiana was back in the day with building cars here. All that steel had to make its way from somewhere. My dad has been a machinist his whole life and I grew up in that culture of machinists who were using Great Lakes steel.

mrteddyprincess The economic info was fascinating. The amount of steel products produced by Rust Belt factories is mind boggling - and most all of it started at the west end of Lake Superior.
