I never saw this thread. I don't read books. I listen and them. Due to my sight deterioration reading at length is frustrating. So I use Hoopla and Libby, both are attached to our town library. Right now I'm through 70% of "America's Deadly Election". Dana Bash. It's about the post Cival War election in Louisiana. I never knew this history. And all I'll say the parallels to 2024 in certain ways is an eye opener.

I'm back to work seeing clients, so I'm reading work-related stuff now. Several therapists I'm friends with are recommending this book to clients with anxiety and panic so I decided to check it out. I really like it. Anxiety affects so many people, so I'm posting this in hopes this book may help one of my brothers and sisters in this group.

Many years ago I saw a therapist during a difficult time in my life. She specialized in first responders and had this wonderful bedside manner, much like a kindly aunt (something she no doubt crafted over the years to bust our crust). Near the end of one session she casually asked me "Mike, do you think you might have anxiety?" I glibly responded that with all of my responsibilities and the safety of my people to worry about I couldn't possibly have time for 'anxiety'! Everyone was counting on..

me!! Pfffht. She said something like "Okay, it was just a thought". As I was driving home and pondering our conversation it hit me like a thunderclap, holy crap, I do have anxiety!!! I was actually pretty giddy with that revelation and it truly altered my course of thought and coping. I couldn't wait for my next visit when I almost breathlessly told her "Laurie, I do have anxiety!!!!" I love that woman to this day for what she did for me.

I used to be an avid reader, a couple books a week. Anything I could get my hands on.
... Not sure what happened, but no longer feel the urge to open a book, other than a cookbook.

I just finished "American Dirt" by Jeanine Cummins via audio book. A story about a woman and her 8 year old son who had to overcome the murder of their entire family and their need to flee Mexico to save themselves. I highly recommend this as it will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Today I finished the latest novel in the series “Eagles of the Empire” by Simon Scarrow entitled “Revenge of Rome.” It follows two main characters in their rise and journey through the Roman army. After finishing the latest novel I realized that this was the 24th book in the Eagle series which I first started reading in the summer of 2000. Very few authors have kept my attention and interest over 24 years. Great adventure and character development over all the books in the series.

The cover is lovely. A throwback to when books were beautiful and electronic versions would have been considered obscene

hoovarmin it’s textured! It feels so good! And the pages are matte, which I love, even the photographs.

New Sci-Fi book from Peter F. Hamilton introducing the universe for an upcoming RPG. If the game is as half as good as the book, it's going to be amazing.
