I spent lunch picking up 2 lbs of butcher bacon, two Berkshire pork butts, and 2 free range chickens for my BBQ Saturday. Will be serving my sales team from work. As for MY sustenance.... two cups of Jamaican blue mountain coffee...neat.

INDOOR COOKWARE
Those who know Houston know the Goode Co. brand. It started with a fella by the name of Jim Goode, a chuck wagon style cook who was a fine pitmaster (recently deceased) and has grown into a large family run operation. They have 2 bbq restaurants, 2 seafood joints (killer) and a Tex-Mex style place. I've been eating his bbq since he opened in 1977 and continue to do so maybe once a month.
The Hispanic guy that slices the meat has been there forever and he knows I want nothing but point meat. He kind of smiles when I come in but pulls out a fresh brisket, slices off the point and fills my jalapeno cheese sandwich bread with a healthy portion.
The place itself is like a wild west emporium, Jim Goode collected Texas memorabilia, really neat just to walk around the place. They're on I-10 and down on Shepherd Dr. in the heart of Houston, check them out if you're ever in the city.

It’s not lunch per se, but we won’t be having lunch after this breakfast! Another absolute gem of a place nearby in Chapel Hill, Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen has won numerous awards including "Best Hangover Food", "Best Breakfast in NC" by Food Network, and the chicken biscuit my kiddo is devouring made Publication International’s "50 Best Sandwiches" cookbook. I had the country ham, egg & cheese and brought bacon, egg & cheese biscuits to UNC hospital since my wife has to work today. It’s a good thing this place isn’t closer to us... if you’re in the Triangle area it’s a must!

Charros Brothers on Fort Myers Beach.
Tiny little place next to the Library. Was there from 11:30 to 12:30 and only one other person came in to ask if they could get food to go. We're still in the off season. Come January this place will be hopping.

Chicken taco salad. Nice presentation and having the cilantro off to the side means you can avoid it if you have that mild allergy that makes it taste like soap to you.

I am going to be in Kansas City on Monday, I have a few hours during lunch, before I fly back out. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking Q39 and Arthur Bryants. Where else should I consider?

Damn, some of you have wonderful choices for lunch it seems. I don't have pics, but if you are ever in Grants Pass Oregon, Cartwright's deli makes some great sandwiches. They are meat market and organic produce of very high quality, and also have a separate location deli where we eat almost every Friday. I had the "just like club" sandwich; thin sliced turkey and ham, bacon, cheese, avocado, tomatoes, all warm and juicy on a cheesy roll.
