Yup, I had a Bosch in my last house and replaced the loud, crappy, builder one with a Bosch at this house. Get the quietest dBA rating, and you won't regret it. We had to look to see if the thing was on at our house in Texas.
I buy thousands of dollars worth of appliances each year in my business and ended up with a Kitchenaid as well. The Bosch unit is an excellent choice too.
I’d always heard good things about Bosch so when Mom’s dishwasher went out, I got her one from Best Buy…..I hate the damn thing! I wanted to see one in person, but they didn’t have the model I was looking at on the floor. This was about a year or so ago. I’ll never buy another dishwasher unless I can see it in person first. Granted, it might just be the particular model I bought, but I still hate it. I think it was around $600. -$700.
The good: It is very quiet.
The bad: 1. The lower rack on wheels, it’s a little clumsy going in and out, very easy to go off track.
2. The door itself won’t stay all the way down when you open it. When you open the door all the way down to a level position, it raises back up 3 or 4 inches on its own….Not a defect, it’s made that way, I hate that!
3. The 2 silverware trays are a pain to remove and then snap back in place when you’ve emptied them. 4. There’s no heating element in it to dry the dishes. I know, a lot of them these days don’t have one, but I still don’t like it, they don’t dry near as well as one with it. It’s supposed to somehow dry the dishes from the heat from the hot water after the last rinse cycle. Half the time I’ve used it, I still had wet dishes. 5. It also doesn’t clean that well. There’s been more than one occasion I’ve had to hand wash silverware and plates that I’ve taken out after it was done. And no, it wasn’t overloaded at all. I also rinse my plates off beforehand, but that’s it.
Most of the time it has cleaned well, but that was only after using the “Normal Cycle” which takes a little over 2 hours! It has several different cycles to choose from, including a “Quick Wash”, but in my experience, only the Normal Cycle cleaned them well. I’d highly recommend researching features that are important to you, and either you or your wife check it out in person, if possible. Good luck Richard!

Another thing I don’t like about it is their arrangement of the tines on the lower rack. First off, they’re closer together than normal, meaning you have to almost aim your plates to make it in between them when loading. Also, for plate loading, half the tines run in a row North and South, the other half East and West! So if you’re loading a lot of plates, it’s a major PITA to fit them all in!

we have a three racks dishwasher, very top is silver ware, then two regular trays below. As others state, no heat drying, I forgot what they call it to dry, but it works pretty well. The only thing I have to dry by hand are plastic container lids with gaskets. Always a few drops of water but easy to wipe down.
I really like it - cleans well, is super quiet and doesn’t leave streaks, spots or anything like that. I’m a Bosch believer!

Retired, living in Western Mass. Enjoy music, cooking and my family.

I'll go against the Bocsh cult here. I've had Whirlpool both in my former house and here since we relocated in 15'. The former was at least 8 years old. Clean the filter and it chugs along. Made in America.
Yes, that is what I have, also from Costco. My understanding is the no heat drying is part of the energy savings. When I notice the red light (meaning it's running) goes out, I just pop the door open an inch or so and let it air dry the rest of the way. A quick shake or wipe of any plastic lids, as noted, is all it needs. Very rare to have anything residual left on the dishes, and I tend to not even rinse. I just scrape/shake off anything solid. I had same model in prior house,>11 yrs total btwn
Ditto on the 800 series from Costco. After our pos Samsung started giving problems, I called a local appliance repair company and asked for their recommendations on best dishwasher and the tech immediately said “Bosch”.Ive gotten into the habit of using the rinse cycle on the dw instead of hand-rinsing. I’ve put some seriously baked on stuff in it and it comes out pristine after the ‘Auto’ mode.

We have an LG that is extremely quiet and can handle an amazing amount of dishes. We picked it by going to Home Depot and Lowe’s and asking the staff which dishwasher they liked best. Both answered the same.
Similar with Eric’s experience but with a different model. Miele. Made in Germany. Expensive? Yes. But everything I read online said they’ll last at least 15 years or so as long as you take care of it, which I do. My first house had the cheapest whirlpool model. Replaced it with an LG I bought from Costco. It was like night and day. Then we loved and had to redo the entire kitchen so I researched the hell out of it. Never heard of Miele but after much research I landed on it. Bought it from ABT electronics on Glenview, IL. Went there at least 3 times and spoke with different sales people each time and asked them what dishwasher would they buy. I had to replace all the appliances so when I was there I was looking at other appliances and I would ask this question casually. For the record, I hate doing dishes and will use my dishwashers whenever I can. This my intent to buy Miele but I needed to be sure. Best appliance I own.
two years later I had to buy a new dishwasher for our basement. ABT has an annual customer appreciation sale and this year they had a sale on the Bosch 800 and entry level Miele. The difference in price was about $400 and the salesman said go with the Bosch since it’s a dishwasher that’ll be used sparingly. So I went with that.
our lake house has a kitchen aid that’s also new.
thoughts: buy what suits you best and your needs. Definitely check out the dishwasher in person. Most dishwashers advertise a 3rd row or top tray. Let me tell you: they’re all different. See them with your own eyes. Some use silverware baskets. See how that floats your boat. I actually brought some plates with me to the store to see how they would work. Most importantly I would tell you to have an understanding on how whatever model looking at dries the dishes. They’re not are equal at all. I own Bosch and kitchenAid. Bosch’s drying is dependent on using Rinse Aid. Kitchen Aid doesn’t use it all; well our model doesn’t. Miele does too.
So here’s my observations from these brands I have owned.
LG: great. I liked it but decided against it when More than sales rep said that while they’re good (so far) they were too new a company to the appliance game to give an overall review of them and said that finding people certified on LG appliances was a challenge. Again this was years ago so who knows. But I look at the news about Samsung and their refrigerator problems and glad I didn’t go with Samsung, a brand I was looking at. But I liked the LG and it was great.
Kitchen Aid: I hated their top shelves. Our lake house model is top tier and I still don’t like it.
Bosch: love it. Use it a few times a month and I have no problems. Top shelf is very good. Has a removable basket too which is a plus.
Miele: best appliance I ever bought. Best top shelf and no silverware basket, which I don’t like anyway. If I have to buy another dishwasher it’ll be a Miele.
I'll give first hand testimony on longevity. Last house the Miele was still going strong at 14 y o when we moved. I'll never buy any other brand. Love the silverware tray, though it blows unfamiliar people's minds. As for quiet, you can barely hear it running when standing next to it. Worth every penny if quality and performance is your schtick.
