Anybody up for pitching in to fund a prize for someone? A participant or a needy member? I'd throw in some money... I'll commit $50 if anyone else thinks it's worth it.

Hey guys, if you want to help OBR, you can go here if you want. A donation will be made in the name of Amazing Ribs. Our excess donations are going to them.

My question is more self-serving. I want to know if there are any AR volunteers cooking for Operation BBQ Relief and if so, where? My wife and I will be driving through eastern KY later this month and can always make a detour to sample the cooks.
On a more altruistic note, I hope OBR gets a nice donation from the previous smackdown.

Backyard Jambo, T1000 Woodmaster, MAK 2 star, 14" & 22" WSM, 2x 22" Weber Kettle, Stoven, Hot Box Grill, Hasty Bake Ranger, RecTeq Bullseye, GMG Davy Crockett; Original Grilla and others I'm not remembering!
I am torn between Team Jambo and Team Pellet! I've got an air problem I need to resolve on the Jambo (it don't want to cook hotter than 250!), so was planning a thorough clean and then a test burn with B&B Charlogs to test. Pellets pay my bills though. I have been known to cook a brisket on pellet and offset at the same time... Walmart this morning has select full packers for $3.49 a pound. I'd like to do a side by side comparing our Contest Mix pellets with pecan and cherry wood in the offset.
I'm in but I'm a split entry!

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Well great golly Panhead John ! You are gonna make me dust off and make some repairs on my offset, aren't ya? The eye bolts that hold the front prep table in place have bent and need replacement, and I've been too lazy to do it, and you really can't use a table that sags at a 30 degree angle... Thankfully they are not welded, just bolted in awkwardly to the front leg framework.
I'll be happy to do some ribs on that bad boy, and burn some wood. Or a brisket. Got a bunch of post oak mini-splits clogging up my shed and in my way right now...
So what's the deal this time? Winner of the challenge gets a new Yoder Loaded Wichita courtesy of Panhead John ?
. JOKING! PLEASE DON'T SIGN UP TO BUY ANY MORE SMOKERS!

I think Panhead John needs to learn some pellet love!

to be fair, I haven't been allowed to grow my hair out for the last 24 years... so it's kinda currently in that phase where I can't do anything with it while it grows out...

One of those other BBQ forums actually has monthly throwdowns/smackdowns with prizes. With the number of members here and the daily number of posts, maybe we could convince management to get involved and officially sponsor a smack down each month. Prizes don’t have to be expensive, a prize pack of Meathead’s & Max’s rubs and sauces, an autographed copy of Meathead’s book, a Porter Road gift card, etc. I understand we already have a fabulous monthly giveaway, but I think it would be nice to see something small that is activity based versus a random drawing.

Not trying to be a curmudgeon but winning based on what? A photo? On a food show we can only see the food, can’t smell or taste it, and have to trust in the judges actually doing so and being honest in their decision making. We wouldn’t have that here online so what criteria would be used? I foresee some difficulties if prizes became part of the fun. Just my 2¢.
