We eat quite a few eggs around here and decided enough is enough. We discussed alternative breakfasts that we already eat but will do more of it. Hot and cold cereals, smoked salmon on bagel pancakes, yogurt, fruit and anything else we can think of.

And I am sure many will join you. We rarely eat a large breakfast anyway, eggs last us a long time here

I go through times where I eat sandwiches for breakfast. Sometimes that can go weeks. They’re delicious. Heck, there’s nothing wrong with having a small cheeseburger to start the day.

It is starting to hit down here now. Eggs were $4.98/dozen about a week ago, but now $6.22/dozen.

You can freeze eggs. Break the eggs and place contents into a freezer bag. Add a little salt. I add 1/2 teaspoon to about a quart. They do well frozen. You can also freeze the yolks and white separately if you want.

City Market just has a coupon for a dozen free. Just a leader to get you in, paid 7.23 last week.

I just got home from the grocery store. Eggs were $8.19 for a package of 18. That’s $5.46/dz. Up a bit from usual but nothing like reports from others. Hope it holds. 🤞🤞🤞

Oh, a limit of two packages per person.

Not as big of a haul as ComfortablyNumb but none the less the quail and chickens feed our family and then some. Thankful to have them. Have not bought an egg in years. Highly recommend to anyone considering.

I do not raise my own to save $. I do not even calculate the cost. Self reliance, control over the production and knowing what goes into the food that we eat is much more important. The eggs in the store are there for weeks and were raised in mass production. Not to mention the meat we get when we process. Can’t put a dollar amount on all of this….

Every time we drop egg bites at my coffee shop job, we joke about how much money we just dropped.

I paid $3.99 for Eggland's Best yesterday, when the "cheaper" brands are near $7. I guess EB didn't have to make any drastic changes to be inline with new requirements.

I saw similar types of pricing at or neighborhood store. Really high cheap eggs and cheaper “premium” eggs.

I did note that one of our state reps who is also a commercial egg farmer was in the Free Press and also on TV saying the new requirements for cage free are costing him less than one cent. He said the bird flu has caused the issues for him and his fellow farmers.

            #71
I was listening to a report that referred to the bird flu not being the as big a reason as we are being led to believe. Yes it does exist, but not to the magnitude of the sky is falling, hence the astronomical raise in prices. Other things may be in play here $$$.

It's definitely a factor maybe even a huge one but to think that corps aren't taking advantage of it and that this will not change the price forever (beyond inflation) is silly in my opinion.

158 million birds have been slaughtered in the last two years, 20 million in the last quarter of 2024, but its just a conspiracy. That must be why the boy geniuses fired a bunch of people who were trying to come up with a solution, so corporations could raise the price some more.

I apologize if I seem rather touchy about this, but a few years ago friends of mine had to slaughter thousands of hogs because there was no place to have them processed. Now millions of chickens are being slaughtered. Farmers in Iowa are already being hit hard from a number of directions, and I take offense at a conspiracy theory that says either there is no problem, or that birds are being slaughtered only to raise the price of eggs. Like those hogs were slaughtered so bacon would cost more.

Washington Post had an article about using AI to "find cheap eggs in my neighborhood". "In under 10 minutes, the AI called Operator, bought a dozen eggs and paid a human to deliver them to my house. All on its own" All for only $31.43.
Apparently, Big Food has got into the AI business.

The article is really about how far AI still has to go.

Was at our local Homeland grocery store yesterday - they are pretty well always higher on everything, but this was a bit over the top, I thought.

1 dozen large eggs - there were lots of all the other ones, these eggs were all gone.

Wait until you read how cows were getting bird flu. The farmers were feeding cows dead chickens and their poop.
