From what I am told we are starting to see a shortage of eggs at the store here in VA. Not sure how long this will last.

I looked at my co-op website this morning, to see what they have since I'm going later today or tomorrow. No white eggs at all, and the brown ones are nearly doubled in price. $16 per 20 egg flat. I probably won't go in until tomorrow, but plan to ask if there is a clear reason.

Alan Brice yeah, I know. I suspect Publix putting out public statement yesterday that they would have shortages just jacked up the price of eggs all over the state.

It seems to me the recent shortages such as eggs are a bit off. I have yet to walk into a store that didn’t have plenty of eggs, but the prices are going up. As far as in my area I’m calling BS on this one.

Just purchased a dozen Jumbo eggs yesterday. $2.89 dozen at Jack's which is a small chain here in mid Michigan. Never bought Jumbo eggs before but they were only a dime a dozen more than the Extra Large. Boy are they big when I cracked open a couple.

I spoke with our egg supplier. He runs a collective of various egg farmers. He says to expect this for pretty much off of 2025.

Picked up 2 dozen today. $4 per. Did not see my egg lady. She could getaway with $5.

I just checked on line at the local store. 6.09 to 6.19 a dozen depending on size. If you insist on cage free eggs grab you pocket book they can be as much as 2.00 more. I’d better call my egg lady at the hardware store.

My produce co-op has no eggs right now, the farmer is having problems with laying as the weather is so wildly different than usual. (I'm having problem with lot of things myself..) He has had health dept check for bird flu, no positives so far, but he is worried because the weather is knocking down his chickens already. Worried about them catching it, only good thing is he is keeping them inside so they aren't exposed to wild birds. I went to Costco Tuesday morning, wheeled through the freezing room, and they only had white basic eggs, boxes of ?18 I think?, for $5.99. Not many of them. People standing there staring at the empty shelves. The news today says bird flu is affecting egg production more (also chicken destruction..) so is expected to get worse.

It is not only chickens, 12 miles north of here is a duck farm. They found one bird with the flu. They are now terminating 100,000 ducks.

Who, and by what authority, condemns these flocks? Is there compensation to owners?

that on the news tonight. Huge duck farm, destroying them all. yakima, FDA has authority. Public health requires destroying all birds in the cohort, here the farm. Unfortunately, communication between FDA, CDC, and other public health agencies has mostly been halted or canceled, while bird flu is spreading in domestic and wild birds, cattle, and humans and cats via raw dairy.

acorgihouse Since you mentioned it I can report that the data on Bird Flu as I post above disappeared from the APHIS website for several days. Just a blank space on the page where it is posted. Luckily it returned when someone with a level head thought about it.
