Where Did You Eat Lunch Today?

Hey maybe it was a bologna sandwich fresh off the grill in your backyard or perhaps it was the dining room of the Ritz-Carlton. Take a snap shot and post it, maybe someone in your area wants to know about that place

Personally been trying to hit as many of the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ joints in this part of Texas. Houston is home to 4 really awesome ones among 20 others I would certainly nominate. Went and ate at Pinkerton's today, got there at 11:15 am and the line wasn't quite out the door yet !!! Decided to have a "sampler" platter, about half of which I took with me !!

Now to the business end of lunch ......

    ....and the money shot ......

    Troutman Que Rating (10=Heavenly Perfection) = 9.9

Troutman It's just on the 'lunch hour' here in WA. I drove a 12 hour shift last night, so lunch for me was a Safeway ham sandwich and a bag of Sun Chips. I'm on 30 hours of no sleep right now and am forcing myself to plough fields.

Troutman, I must have just missed you. I tried out Pinkerton's today for the first time as well. Got there a little after noon, strange coincidence.

I try not to be there anywhere near noon. Left about 11:45 or so, let me know if you ever want to meet up, I work in the Heights.

Too late for me too. My bowl of chili is long gone, and I don't think you want a photo of it now...

Pinkerton... wasn't that a detective agency back in the hard cowboy days?
        Looks really nice Troutman

Yup on Pinkerton. They were actually a detective agency hired by the railroad Barron’s as muscle. Also advised (poorly I might add) on troop strengths of Lee’s army to McClellen during the Civil War.

They were more like Blackwater and other private security firms of today. They didn't really do much detective work. More for private security, muscle and intimidation of unions back in the day. They still exist.

No lunch for me today! To busy at work. Even if I had, I doubt it would top what you had!

Not nearly as nice a lunch as some of you had. 4x4 animal style cheeseburger and well done fries from In N Out.

I'd post it but I don't think a picture of the local Taco Bell would be all that interesting.

Mr. Bones Hey brother, last nights undressed wings in a new dressing of Pete's, Valentino and Tabasco-habenero. With a squeeze of scratch ranch we use for salads. Only 4 left from yesterday's parm wings but they fought hard and valiantly. Alas, victory was mine!!

Catered work lunch from a popular, Utah-based Mexican restaurant chain, called Cafe Rio. Way too late for pictures.

OK maybe I can shame you all into posting some lunch pix. Here is another BBQ joint in Houston which annually makes the top 50 BBQ restaurants on Texas Monthly's countdown. I go there probably 2 times a month for lunch, it's on my standard rotation. Greg is a former defensive back for Rice University and starting cooking ribs in a small house converted to a tiny restaurant. He only cooked on weekends at first but couldn't cook his specialty, pork ribs, fast enough to satisfy demand. He now runs a really nice operation, and those ribs just keep melting in your mouth ......

Gatlins is my second favorite in the area. Haven’t made it to Pinkertons yet.

OK in my quest to eat Texas' best que, I journey to a Houston suburb called Pearland where we have one of THE best bbq joints in Texas. Always high on Texas Monthly's Best of the Best, Killen's is serving up some awesomeness !! Kind of a ways away but I snuke away early to miss the long lines so prevalent in good que joints here now a days. Got there right at opening and still waited 20 minutes just to get in the door....

Click image for larger version Name:	Killens Entry.jpg Views:	1 Size:	694.9 KB ID:	480169Click image for larger version Name:	Killens Dining.jpg Views:	1 Size:	741.7 KB ID:	480170

...asked if I could tour their pit area and they said no probelm. Had three large industrial size roatary type pits and these what I think are 1000 gallon jobs ala Aaron Franklin. They were all loaded and going strong with oak and mesquite wood....

Click image for larger version Name:	Killens Pits.jpg Views:	1 Size:	748.6 KB ID:	480171

...now for the money shot. And oh yea, I failed to mention the specailty of the day was Snake River Farms Wagyu Brisket !!! Well over course I couldn't help myself !! That unassuming little pile of meat was absolutely awesome. I think that may be some of the best brisket I have ever tasted, no cliche or exaggeration !!

Click image for larger version Name:	Killens Brisket.jpg Views:	1 Size:	794.5 KB ID:	480172

....unfortunately the real "money" shot was when I reached the cash reister. But hey, had to take one for the team right ? If you're ever in Houston, make the trek out to Pearland, it's well worth the journey and even the wait !!!
