After checking into my room Friday at The Homewood Suites, I shot a video showing how good sized the rooms are. All the rooms come with a separate kitchen…with a stove and microwave, sink, dishwasher and a full size fridge and top freezer. Has a walk in shower, good sized sink area and a large storage closet in the bathroom. The other 2 hotels we looked at weren’t this big and just had a small mini fridge. If you’re going to the MeatUp, pretty sure you’ll love this place!

Looks great. I've stayed in Homewood Suites many times and always had a great experience. Great recon, John and David.

I agree with hoovarmin . Homewood and Hampton are my go-to Hilton properties for travel. If I want to be a bit more upscale, I’ll book a Doubletree.

Just as a heads up, I got us a pretty good deal on our rooms. I’ll be announcing the rates and posting a link to get the discounted rate, maybe in the next hour or two. People can start booking their rooms after it’s posted. There is no code to enter, you just have to use the link I’ll be posting. The discount rate is automatically applied when you book using the link. Carry on…..

Panhead John is the most up-to-date updater I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. PJ, give us an update on your most up-to-date updates to date and don’t eat any dates between now and the dates of the meat-up while you’re on a date and don’t post-date your most up-to-date updates, you dated updater. With humble apologies to CaptainMike for this update of our most illustrious updater, to date. I learn only from the best.

After you’ve booked your room, can you please let us know in this post? We’ll be doing the Swamp Tour on Saturday October 28 at 1pm. They require reservations ahead of time, so I’ll need to know how many people will be doing it. There’s a great restaurant just a mile from the swamp tour company, I thought we could have lunch there beforehand.

58limited will be keeping an attendance count of everyone coming to The MeatUp. This would really help if I can get everyone to post the following information AFTER YOU’VE BOOKED YOUR ROOM……..

          1.
Please tell us how many will be attending in your party. 1 or 2? 3?
          2. Will you be going on the swamp tour? Yes or no. If yes, how many in your party will be going?
          3. When will you be arriving? Thursday or Friday? This will help us out in case we need to make dinner reservations somewhere.

I’ll post later with more suggestions for dining options and activities. Thanks everyone!

EDIT: Hotel Cancellation Policy…..There is no cancellation fee charged provided you give them at least 48 hours notice before your check in date.

Once you choose a room they give the option for some inexpensive upgrades. If two people or two couples want to go in together one upgrade for about $60/night extra is a 1 King/ 2 Queen Bed Two Bedroom Two Bathroom Suite (one bedroom has a king bed, the other bedroom has two queen beds). Other upgrades: higher floor - $8/night, corner room (bigger) - $20/night. Room on the other side of the hotel from PJ - $100/night

Frankly, I have reservations about this meat-up ... and by "reservations", I mean reservations for two. Arriving Thursday ... departing Sunday. Zero for the Swamp Tour (been there, done that ... and it's worth it for sure).

Even got my Looziana party duds back from the cleaners and ready to go ...

Booked. Put me in for the swamp tour too, but not on the boat with you. I am still pissed about the Halle incident, even though I have moved on to Zoe. I may be tempted to push you out of the boat.

BREAKING NEWS!……IMPORTANT UPDATE TO THE UPDATES!

I haven’t mentioned this yet, but if anyone wants to bring a friend along to The MeatUp, feel free to do so! It doesn’t have to be just a spouse or adult family member that can attend. Also, I’m going to post an itinerary for the weekend which should help for planning your weekend. Remember, all attendees are welcome to dine elsewhere or visit other attractions if you like, there’s never any pressure to follow the group at these things. I’ve had extensive conversations with Danielle at the Visitors Center, hotel staff at the 2 places we stayed in Lafayette and from 58limited and my own experiences recently in Lafayette. I think that the itinerary I’m proposing will be the most fun and enjoyment for the largest number of people.

THURSDAY: After checking in at the hotel, we can all have a Happy Hour get together downstairs in the indoor or outdoor seating area. This is always fun as most of us are meeting each other for the first time, a relaxed “get to know each other time.” Around 6:30 or so we can head out to a local restaurant for dinner. As the time gets closer, we can decide where we want to eat. As many people as we should have going, we’ll need to make reservations ahead of time. One suggestion from Danielle was Boutin’s, a popular Cajun Steak and Seafood place, about 15 minutes from the hotel.

FRIDAY: Coffee in the morning downstairs with the gang. There’s a free hot Buffett at the hotel from 6-9 am. We can all toss around lunch ideas if you like. There’s a really good Po-Boy place and another casual Cajun place within walking distance of the hotel. Friday after lunch I thought we could all take a trip to Avery Island and visit Jungle Gardens and The Tobasco Farm/Factory. I’m told that Jungle Gardens is a visually stunning place to visit. You can drive through them if you like or take a self guided walking tour. The ticket price is $15.50 and includes a self guided walking tour of the Tobasco Farm. This would take a few hours total and is well worth it from what I hear! You’ll see and learn everything there is about how Tabasco Sauce is made, from growing the peppers to the final bottling stage.

Friday night dinner should be at Poor Boys Riverside Inn around 6:30. This place is definitely worth going to! Great food and an absolutely beautiful outdoor area.

SATURDAY: Lunch Saturday could be at Pat’s Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant in Henderson, La. It’s about 20 minutes or so outside Lafayette and is only 1 mile from our swamp boat tour at 1:00 pm. The airboat swamp tour takes about an hour and a half.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Dinner can be at Prejean’s Cajun Restaurant in Broussard. David and I ate there, the food and atmosphere is awesome! Live Cajun music on the patio and a nice quieter environment dining inside. We loved this place!

These are just suggestions and we can change them later down the road if needed. I’ll post links to all the above places shortly. One more thing, if anyone wants to extend their stay beyond Thursday thru Sunday, feel free! The hotel told us they can extend the discounted rate more than likely if needed. This place is really welcoming and and I’m sure everyone will like staying there.
