John and David, we are cooking at an Eggfest on October 21, and we would love to combine the trip with visiting family in New Orleans. There a few medical issues to work around, but if there is a way to work it in, we will be there.

I used to refer to my ex wife as Nurse Ratched. Our daughters never got it. One day my eldest (in her twenties) watched Cuckoo’s Nest. The penny dropped. She thought it was pretty funny. Brutal, but hilarious. Score one for the good guys!!! 😂

ALRIGHTY FOLKS, WE’VE GOT THE CAJUN COUNTRY MEATUP DATES SET..AND A HOTEL CHOSEN!

After many hours of back and forth among the esteemed members of The Cajun Country MeatUp Committee [me and David] we’ve decide on the last weekend of October! The dates will be THURSDAY OCT 26 THRU SUNDAY OCT 29….. The hotel that best suits our needs and is a good value is The Homewood Suites by Hilton Lafayette-Airport, LA….. David and I are in our rooms now at one of the contenders, The Courtyard by Marriott. It’s a nice hotel, but the rooms are probably 1/2 the size of the ones at The Homewood Suites. Both have a nice indoor and outdoor seating area, but you’ll have much more room size at The Homewood. After checking in our rooms today, David and I both immediately agreed and thought the Homewood is our best bet.

Concerning the chosen dates: After hearing from 4 or 5 possible attendees who told me what dates wouldn’t work for them, David and I both agreed the last weekend in October gives the most people possible the opportunity to go.

DO NOT BOOK YOUR ROOMS YET! I still have to speak with Laurie in sales at The Homewood on Monday. She’s off on weekends. I have to let her know we’ve chosen her hotel and will need to get a GROUP RATE CODE for people to use when booking online. I also want to see what’s gonna be our absolute best rate. We were quoted a few weeks ago $129. to $149. [depending on room size and # of beds] if we were staying the 3rd weekend in October. …[WE’RE NOT STAYING THAT WEEKEND] Anyway, I’ll post everything we need to know sometime on Monday. Once I’ve got all the info posted here, along with our discount code, then you can start booking your rooms. I’m telling ya folks, you’re gonna love Louisiana!…….

A word of caution if you’re attending The MeatUp….Be on the lookout for these guys! 🙄

I thought this man bun fad was dead, apparently Louisiana didn’t get the memo. You might remember that on my way to the NC MeatUp last month, I stopped for gas in Slidell, Louisiana and spotted 2 guys in the same store, each sporting their own version of the man bun! What are the chances, 2 guys side by side almost. Today David and I saw this dude in a small grocery store……… I actually was able to get a pic without being noticed.

Awesome, PJ! SWMBO and I are both in. I just hope the place you’ve chosen is at least as nice and has a swanky pool like the last place I stayed in Lafayette.

I’d wait for garbage day, close the lid, submerge, then pop up when the garbage guy opens the lid to dump it! Watch him soil his boxers! Or better yet, play dead (am I sic or just have a vivid imagination?)

This morning I visited The Acadian Village. It’s a collection of old 1800’s Acadian homes and furnishings that were prevalent back in the day. It’s a $9.00 self guided tour that showcases the types of homes, furnishings, farm equipment etc. which was actually used back in the day. Very interesting. This is just one of the many things to see and do in Lafayette.

I can personally vouch for this place. It's been a while (like 25-30 years) but every time I ate there it was excellent. From what I hear, that hasn't changed.

David and I ate here tonight and I gotta say, this has been probably one of the overall greatest restaurant experiences I’ve had. Not only was the food stellar, but the atmosphere, scenery, interaction with the owners and……hand feeding raccoons has made my day. Poor Boys Riverside Inn is a definite MUST VISIT in October. This place is the oldest restaurant in the Acadiana area, since 1932! After dinner we met the current owners, they said the place has remained in the family since its inception. They are Richard and Lori Hurst, 2 of the nicest people you could ever meet. We must have talked and visited with them for almost an hour after dinner. This is one of the things I like about Louisiana and Lafayette in general….the people here are so nice and friendly. I told them a little about AR and why we were there….come to find out, they actually used to serve ribs there for a while, before the pandemic. They offered to put them back on the menu for us when we return in October! They said when we come back, give ‘em a few weeks notice, and if anyone wants ribs they’ll be happy to serve them to us.

Anyway, here’s some food pics. I had a cup of seafood gumbo and a cup of chicken and andouille sausage gumbo…followed by an order of shrimp brochette. Excellent, especially the chicken and sausage gumbo!

I had a bowl of the chicken and sausage gumbo and the pasta alfredo with shrimp. Both were excellent! The ambience of this place is wonderful with beautiful grounds and and a turtle pond. At dusk the raccoons show up begging for handouts. We fed them some cookies that the owners provided.
