Where will it live? When do we get to see it in action? Hopefully you don't have to wait for it to stop raining because I'm pretty sure it never will.

So I have done some due diligence, and the forces are mild - until you add in the rolling resistance from the casters. Without friction it’s only 68 lbf to overcome. The coefficient of static friction for a rubber caster on concrete is 0.35-0.4 which adds 50 lbf to the job for a total pick of 118 lbf. But that is just at the beginning, rolling resistance is less than static friction. This also assumes there is no moment force we need to overcome and that the center of gravity is coincident to the geometric center. Unfortunately you have to damage the crate to remove the kamado from the palette. There is a box that it is high centered on which they recommend “collapsing with a hammer” 🔨 🧐 Based on my analysis above I think we can finish uncrating. Here is where it’s going. . . 🔥🔥🐿️

Uncle Bob what kind of lily livered. . . 😂😂the roof is to protect the kamado from widow makers. Occasionally sizeable broken limbs are found on my patio. It would be a fatal blow to the KK. Now that I have the Kamado I doubt I will cook in anything else when its schlecky out. My other cookers might be sidelined except in the best weather. Time will tell. . . 🔥🔥🐿️

If you need to hire movers, definitely go the route of the guys that do gun safes. I’ve had mine moved twice and those guys have some crazy good gear for moving them. Like one guy moves the 750 lb safe all by himself once it’s on the right gear. Crazy

The final uncrating maneuver. I unscrewed the wheel blocks and it was high centered on this wooden block. So we set up the ramp and slowly tipped it until it started to roll. This collapsed the wooden block. From there it was easy to get off the palette. Installed the vent lid and tried to roll it in my garage. The kamado doesn’t track at all, she zigs and zags like the panzershwein she is 🙄 I have zero confidence it could be rolled up a ramp. So I am going to call a mover that specialized in gun safes. They can strap everything up and put blankets on etc. Will be well worth it, and just in time to cook the butt dry brining in my fridge 😁🔥🔥🐿️

The Eagle 🦅 has landed 🛬 . . . The moving team
was relatively unsophisticated. Their hand cart had a short lip but they used wood to protect the feet. They blanketed it really well and cocooned it with stretch wrap. Pretty sure we were at the ramps capacity 😂😂😂. Didn’t take long. It’s time
to do a burn in now 🔥🔥🐿️Last edited by MsTwiggy; January 29, 2024, 04:04 PM.

Grillin Dad I have an elevated deck too that I did not build and for a long time, I thought when I got a hot tub I wanted it sunk into the deck. So I was going to build in the support separately and have everything supported independently from the deck. So all you have to do is spend a few thousand more and do that. Problem solved!

As a Kamado guy I will be waiting to hear your reports. I hope you don’t have any plans to relocate that sucker, because I know it far outweighs my BGE.

LA Pork Butt This is the final location. I do have a covered area out front but I park my car under that. The back has stairs that come off the deck which is accessed from the kitchen. Looking forward to spending spring and summer getting everything tuned up 🔥🔥🐿️

@MsTwiggy getting a look at those casters in the pic above I'm surprised by their looking to be barely adequate for such an otherwise beautifully designed device.
Since we know you to be a technically precise person I have a small nit for you. That wrap material is actually known as stretch wrap (yeah, most people call it shrink wrap, incorrectly). Shrink wrap is an actual material that is wrapped around an object and then subjected to heat to shrink it to fit. If you've seen new boats being transported on trailers that, usually, white plastic looking, tightly bound protective material is an example.

MsTwiggy while on the subject of the casters, do they lock at all? I was looking at someone's KK - same size I think as yours - and if those are locking casters up underneath there, not sure how you would ever lock and unlock them, since they are kinda recessed up under the ceramic legs... I don't think his were locked, but when I gave it a nudge, it sure didn't move on his patio... then again, its heavy as a piano...

Mosca This location is pretty exposed to rain and other weather so a cabinet is probably not a good investment. I don’t like the shelves (rod and tube always feel rickety to me). I want more flexibility than a masonry counter here. Was considering building a hardwood table for my weber with casters and getting a cover made. Haven’t figured everything out yet. 🔥🔥🐿️
